We are heading to Aachen for the first time this week
Veterans of 5*'s and Boekelo, but first timers for Aachen
Arriving in Aachen Thursday - tickets for eventing Friday and Sat, ride and drive Sat night, and SJ Sun

Has anyone been before? Any tips?

Have a great time! We have tickets booked for the World Champs there next year so will also be interested to hear anything advice you have after!

Went years ago so probably changed a lot but was great. Were free buses from the town to the show ground. Super choice of food. Great fun. Keep thinking should go again but never get round to it.

I’ve managed to snag tickets for the nations cup tonight so back again today. The free buses are going from the town, our hotel is out of town nearer the stadium. It’s a bit 6 of one half a dozen of the other. Really clean friendly place loads of places to eat.

And ended up getting last minute tickets to the nations cup last night, was incredible! Back today for our last day here.

If you’ve your back to the net Aachen stands - there’s plenty of food and drinks that way that tends to be quieter than the Aachen village. I’d recommend the chocolate covered fruit! But at the furthest right side of the village (with your back to the net Aachen stand still) there are the cleanest quietest set of toilets which hardly ever have a queue! Plus there is a wonderful frozen yogurt stand (v generous with sauce + fruit).

Take a hat and suncream x 1,000,000, there are water refill stations too.

Sounds like you’re having a great time. When I went as above this years ago, I’d got showjumping tickets as went with a group of showjumpers but got on the day dressage tickets for some ridiculously cheap price. It really is a fab place, isn’t it?

It’s amazing. I’d come back. Beats our shows into dust tbh.

Well just a quick update - we had the most amazing time
Stayed in Aachen city centre right on the edge of the old town, what a buzz about the place! Lovely cathedral and cobbled pedestrian streets with restaurants and bars spilling out. We were 5 minutes walk to the bus station (wouldn't have wanted to be any closer to there to be honest, as with most cities it isn't the nicest area close to the bus station!) - with typical German efficiency, the free shuttle to the show left every 10 minutes.
Highlights for us were:
Tickets basically on the centre line at C for the eventing dressage, what a fantastic view.
Cross country day, sunny skies and great crowds, so much buzz about the place
The ride & drive on Saturday night - what an absolutely fab atmosphere!! Loved it
For anyone going next year - we stayed at the Aquis Grana hotel - it was B&B so we snaffled breakfast buffet-made sandwiches for later on. The location was perfect. Flew to Dusseldorf which was a very efficient airport

Just watched Justin Verboomen's winning Freestyle. Absolutely beautiful. What a happy stallion and he's unshod as kept losing his shoes when turned out. Here's the link

I watched it on CMH on Sunday and fell in love with that horse! Such a happy looking athlete and real harmony. I hadn't spotted he was unshod.
