Just wondering what day the Ridden showing is on... trying to sort out my diary and holidays at work, and would love to go down and watch this season! cant seem to find it on the website. Thanks :)

We are holidaying near by to go to the show for the first time, to see the welsh cobs mainly. Any useful info also appreciated, if you don't mind my hijacking the thread! Thx.

Will try and find it on the schedule from last year :) I bet the Inhand is mental! I had a section D now and take it Inhand but the hardcore welsh people are far too mental for me and my pony hahah xxx

Having many cob classes in the Main Arena at once is quite a sight! We go nearly every year. If it is good weather the show gets really, really busy, I think it has the largest attendance of any show in the UK.
They hold mounted games, which is really exciting and some times have some good main ring horse displays.
You could sit in the Grand Stand all day and be entertained with different classes and displays.

It is still a good agricultural show with lots of interesting and useful machinery on view, so OH happily spends all day going up and down the machinery lines while I look at horse things, and there are all sorts of exhibition halls - food, crafts, competitions, as well as all the sheep and cattle rings. You could easily spend 2 days there.

To give you an idea of size I believe it is the largest agricultural show in Europe. There's showing classes on all days so have a look on website and see what you fancy. They pretty much keep the same classes each year to the same day so 2013 schedule should give you a good idea.

Main Ring
Monday Welsh Cobs and section C under saddle Various classes mares stallion gelding
Tuesday Section A senior classes, Section D junior classes Section C Junior classes
Wednesday Section D senior classes, Section A junior classes, Section B junior classes. PM SENIOR STALLIONS section D
Thursday Section B Senior classes, Section C senior classes, Welsh part bred

On most days you can simply buy tickets for the main stand, however if you want to see the senior section D stallions on the Wednesday afteerenoon you need to be in the stand pretty early to secure a seat. there are many other classes HOYS hunter, shire, driving, working hunter etc in the horse ring. If you have never been and you want atmosphere then Wednesday is the day, but I also like Tuesday fir the D youngstock.

In general 6 youngstock classes per section yearling, two and three year old fillies and colts. Senior classes senior brood mare junior brood mare filly foal, colt foal junior stallion and senior stallion.

Hope that is enough info.

I went for the first time a couple of years ago. Can't remember which day, but if you want to watch any popular classes you need to find a viewing point or seat in the main stand in plenty of time. Loads there to see and do. Really enjoyed it. I took advantage of the park and ride which was really efficient, there were buses every few minutes and it was all well signposted.

As others have said, Wednesday is THE day for an atmosphere like no other. The Inhand Sec D stallions is a sight that sends tingles through your body and the atmosphere is electric. You have to be in the Grandstand early to hold on to your seats which leaves little time to take in the rest of the show so two days would be better.
I also thoroughly enjoy the Grand Parade where all the winning animals, cattle, sheep, goats and horses are in the ring together.
Accomodation also gets booked up early if you want to stay close to the showground. We camped about 6 miles away in a lovely forested park that had a catering wagon serving up full breakfast very early for those leaving for the show. We then used the park and ride, easy and efficient.
It is by far the best show in the Land and the stallions is something you will never forget.

Aaarrghhhh I'm going to have to stay away from this thread!!

Baby due slap bang in the middle of the show so no way I can go. First year ill have missed for ages - OH and I used to camp for the whole week before baby 1 came along. Great atmosphere!
