Anyone Bought a Horsebox on Ebay?

Sort of - the one I was watching didn't sell, and they said in the advert that they would consider a swap for a trailer. We took the trailer to their place, checked the lorry over thoroughly, and swapped. It was a great lorry although I sold it 18 months later as I only had one horse left to compete, and it was just too big.

Why wouldn't you buy from Ebay? It's a good place to look, as long as you do the same as with a lorry advertised anywhere else - take someone knowledgeable with you to check it over, don't just bid because you can :)

Go and have a look over the lorry first, and if you don't know what to look for take someone qualified with you. Then bid.

The lorry I bought through ebay was very old and tatty on the outside, she was also very sound both mechanically and in the horse area and I ran her for over three years before upgrading to a much newer one with fancy living. I played it safe by buying her with a year's tax and test. I paid £1K for her. In fact her horse area was so good (ex-Oakley) after nearly 25 years that I replaced her with an Oakley.

Having bought through ebay and privately now I would have no hesitation, if I were looking for another lorry, in having a good look on ebay to see if what I wanted was there and going to have a look. It's no more risky than buying through the small ads.

This ^^

I found one on ebay (lorry) - went to look - offered a price - it was accepted and away we went with it.

He'd put it on ebay as a form of advertisement and think he was pleased to do the deal away from ebay as there can be so many time wasters.

I bought mine that was advertised on Ebay, however not through Ebay auction - I contacted her, auction finished, and I went to see it and bought in the same way as I would if it had been a classified ad.

We bought our present Disco (know its not a lorry, sorry - but wanted to share our eBay experience), fron eBay with no problem at all. Was a private seller, so we went to look and test drive before auction ended. Then set our limit and made our bids and did not get caught up in the moment and got it for less than we had budgeted for in the end. Happy days.

I've bought a trailer, 3 lorries and at least 4 cars.

I always ask loads of questions and do nothing until I'm happy with the answers.

Sometimes I'll view before I buy or I'll ask someone else to.

So far I haven't bought anything awful.

I sold my horse box on eBay!

As others have said treat it like you would any other expensive purchase - go and have a look, take it for a test drive and take someone mechanically minded with you.
Set your search parameters so you only get to see lorries relatively locally and then you won't be tempted to buy unseen from hundreds of miles away.
If you decide you want the lorry then set yourself a maximum amount you are prepared to pay for it and stick to it.

Be very careful, my friend lost a lot of money only last month on a trailer scam. Never part with much cash until you see it. I bought a Disco without problems but paid on collection.
