Has anyone built there own show jumps? I'd like my hubby to have a go, nothing fancy just some uprights, with holes in for cups, or a cavaletti or something similar and was looking for ideas.
Pictures would be really helpful too....

you can buy a book on how to make them

OH started making a few for me - then other peeps and it turned into a business! alas he stopped it about a year ago now

Those look very similar to some I've made. I always use a router to contersink joints. It makes a much stronger joint than just butting the bits of wood together and bolting them.

It's also useful for rounding edges.

May be stating the obvious but use pressure treated wood.

I've made some uprights with holes drilled for cups as shown above. Now I use tracking and cups (like below) which is way easier.

Online sellers are good places to get designs.

I have some pics of my friends jumps, I'm pretty sure they were made by her dad.. Either way, feeling very creative, we painted them ourselves! I'm quite gutted as I'm sure I had pictures of when we first painted them etc, but can't find them, so here's what I do have..

Very simple wings with holes for the average cups...

Here, you can see we made some fillers, we got a flat piece of wood, painted it 'scary' (which didn't work, pony didn't bat an eyelid

) and then screwed it onto a filler my friend had previously made from a wood pallet I do believe!
Excuse white box, it isn't me jumping

You can see the back of the fillers/wood pallets here.

Then we got some planks of wood to make, well, planks obviously (wings not made, but bought I think in the pic) Friend got some pole shaped wood, and slotted the plank into them so they sit nicely on the cups

Excuse awful position, very long time ago and I do believe I did one of my dodgy turns into the jump, hence bad take of stride

And then, very similar to the planks, a 'wall' we were going to paint white lines on it so it was really like a wall, but decided it looked quite good as it is

Excuse position again

And lastly, how my friend made the wall and the planks into a corner type jump. And the made wings in the background.

My OH made my daughter a jump and it weighs an absolute ton, you could hang a gate off it! Mind you he is a farmer so everything has to be sturdy.

not a difficult thing if you got a good handy man and relevant wood working tools. take him to a good show and let him look at the construction! failing that go to a good show or ideally bsja and take pics of fillers wings stands feet etc and take home and discuss what yiou want, you can buy the cups and pins from most places.
