I recently purchased a lovely 9 year old dressage horse from abroad.
Super first 3 rides, but now 6 weeks later very scared and not sound.
I wondered if anyone on here had occasion to check the bloods (5 stage vetting) and what outcome they had?

Is the seller in a country where the law will protect you and also where you can sue if they won't comply? It's not cheap to test and I'm afraid you might just be throwing good money after bad?

This must be terribly upsetting, I'm sure the horse wasn't cheap!

No experience of vetting bloods, sorry but general blood work isn't cheap.

Just wondered if you'd tried a gut supplement- 6 weeks is a good time frame to be looking a bit ulcery/ unbalanced after a move and settling in?

Agree with thinking carefully about testing - it just depends what you might want to do with the results and how successful that might be. If doubtful, I would be chalking it up to experience and working with vet to find any cause. All sorts of symptoms can flare up with a move and the gut is always a good place to start. My last mare came up in lumps and bumps on her skin after a month. Trinity Consultants were very helpful in explaining how all the different organisms in pasture and different feed can cause a flare up until she adjusted. She did with the help of one of their liver support supplements. You don't say if it is a mare or gelding but I might also be thinking hormones with a mare. Hope you find an answer quickly.
