Is there anyone aged under 21 on here driving a LGV over 7.5 tonnes privately?

If there is then did you pass the initial LGV driver cpc?

I ask as the law states that those aged 18 to 21 and driving LGVs over 7.5 tonnes GVW must pass the initial LGV driver cpc but many trainers do not realise that it is also for private as well as commercial

Sorry to hijack this thread, buy your the man in the know! I've passed my class 1, however my downgrade to a trailer can i tow it or do i need to take trailer test? Thanks ROG

I haven't done my licence yet, but it is on the list of things to start doing - I am under 21 and would be driving my own over 7.5 lorry! When I was reading up about it I didn't find anything about that so thank you!
Does anything change if for example I would be driving my bosses lorry to shows for her (it is over 7.5 also?)

I think Al did... She did it by the book with a very good company who were very on the ball and sorted it all out with her.

If you passed C+E then that gives you B+E for as long as the B licence remains valid so basically for life

Driving a 7.5 or under does not need a driver under age 21 to have initial

If a driver is under age 21 and is driving a LGV over 7.5 privately then they do need intial by law

The training and test can be done without the need for the initial but its what occurs after the test is passed which matters

I haven't my license on me, but i passed my test (id call it HGV) drove 18t rigid lorry.. so can i tow a trailer? Im sure i was told i couldnt?!

Passing C does not give a +E (trailer) entitlement

If you had passed C+E C1+E D+E or D1+E then any of those would have upgraded B to B+E

My driving instructor informed me of that rule during training, I must admit I hadn't heard of it before. I took my test I think a short while after I turned 19 if I remember correctly. I drive my 7.5ton box, and since turning 21 have driven a friend's 18ton. I find it an odd rule as by its very name - Certificate of Professional Competence - it does not appear to have a link to personal use, and similar to the rule with motorbike licences I find it annoying that a 21yo newly passed driver is considered to be more competent/ safe than a newly passed 18yo but then I dislike the notion of judging by age rather than just by ability to meet the same standards of driving competence but hey ho!
