Anyone else counting poos?

thanks for reminding me about the counting!!!! arrgghh you know i will have to restart this first thing :) i had given up when i moved to my own place but now i have read this i am stressing out about it lmao,
i do remember telling the vet that my gelding did 22 in one 24 hr period- lets just say i got a very weird look when i explained how i knew :) :) :)

Someone is bringing an elephant into my field everyday to crap. It has got to the point I have strained my wrist poopicking.

I can join the club too! I count my poops. She does bout 9 on average in 24hrs. Dont know bout in stable as she mushes it all up with her pee in the front of her stable, but at least her bed stays dry and doesn't take as long to muck out!

I always made a point about it as a friend on yard has too cobs that were on starvation only did 3 in 24hrs but she never did take any notice. I'd be extremely worried, although they did seem alright.

14.1 big boy cob good doer 9 poos per 24 hours and then if its more grazing is restricted...

AND I still cant work out where that big beetle that lives in the blooming middle comes from...that lives in the hole in the ground in the middle of the poo??

How did it get there? Anyone???

They can fly, i guess they fly then burrow....(shrugs beats me!)

They are dung beetles, they do a great job in getting rid of the poo. they eat it,make it all fluffy a bit difficult to pick up though when its all fluffy.

I hate dung beetles, they make poo picking take twice as long!!

I too count poos and have worked out that my horses poo every two hours, two horses = 24 poos every 24 hours.

Mine must be something of a record-breaker: his record is 13 (THIRTEEN!!) on one 2-hour hack. Ok, they weren't all big poos, but still!!

...perhaps that explains his pernicious belly??

At an away party last year, we all had our horses corralled...there he was, surrounded by Arabs with a few neat poos in each of their little corrals...and his had simply masses of huge poos in!

I---sadly---often count how many poos I can put in one wheelbarrow. About 50 seems to be the limit for still being able to push it out of the field. :o

50!!??!!! I was impressed when I managed to get 27 in my wheelbarrow this morning!!

I also have to do my field a certain way round - walk up to the top then wiggle my way back to the bottom. I am so loving that so many other people share the poo counting etc and therefore I am not odd (or are we all!!?).

I actually haven't poo picked much this summer, only have 2 horses on 5 acres so can get away with harrowing! Mainly due to having a 1yo and can't push buggy with wheelbarrow around 2 inquisitive horses! (Keep meaning to go on Dragon's Den with an adapted wheelbarrow with a shopping trolley seat on the front!). Will be back next year to counting the poos, and getting mad with myself when I lose count to the point of being tempted to tip the load back out and count the poo pebbles, and dividing them evenly into piles to re-enact proper poo piles to get the number I forgot!! :) OCD anyone!?

Counts them,
Checks shapes and size and consistancy....
I even check where they have been dropped and get concerned if they are not in the 'right' place.

After worming I pull them apart! Gillian skinny whatserface has nothing on me!

I have just started a new muck heap (moved house) I had to build it from scratch. It is made from railway sleepers. Currently the dimensions are 1 deep by 2 wide by 5 high.

I have 6 horses and have been using the muck heap for 2 months. Just from the fields. The current area is just about full!!!! Amazing how much they do in that time!

Think I'd better build the rest of it and get that lot cleared before they come in!!!!

Oh dear, I too have found I can get about 25 in the barrow and still manage to push it through thick mud in the gateway. I also see if I can work out which bottom each pile came out of! As to what my own horse does though, I suspect she is anally retentive. She only ever does 2 piles when stabled overnight (6pm or a bit later to 8am). She eats plenty so I don't know why it is so few.

How does the shopping trolley seat work when you get to the muck heap? You don't want to be chucking the baby out with the proverbial:eek:

Apart from that I find your OCD behaviour strangely comforting:)

hee hee, oh dear. To any non-horsey person can just imagine what they think of a thread like this :D

I don't count poos (although I have thought of it once or twice), I do know how much should be in the wheelbarrow depending on whether I poo pick morning or night, or once or twice a day.

Actually, how sad is it that I can remember how many poos I picked up from each area today?

With regards to doing the field a specific way, yup, I go to a little patch of grass in middle then back to gate and go around edge of field. I gave OH a row the other day when he veered off from the way I do it :p

Yes hands up i am guilty of pooh counting!!

In my defence it stemmed from when we had a yard issue of pooh picking and someone mentioned each person needs to pick up x poohs per day and in order to get to x the counting began lol!!!

I have my own paddock but still count its useful to know and keep tabs on she does 6 during the day and 6-8 when in at night!!!

She also only poohs in 2 spots in the field very handy!!

K xx

I dont count them in the stable, but i have a horse that poos SO many times on a ride that i always count them, last week he pooed 32 times :eek:on a 2hour hack the average is 15 times on a 2 hour hack he just drops 3 nuggets out at intervals.

I thought it was just me!
My 2 do approx 24 -30 overnight and up to 16 more in the afternoon!! Out 27/7 on good long grass with only balancer to top up. I am gobsmacked at how much they do some days. I fill 2 wheelbarrows every day.
