I organise the comps on our yard... dont know why - must be the massocist in me.... well today i have been attacked by a mum - who was screaming at me that i was picking on her daughter (17) and was a jelous old so and so becuase she had been placed 3rd instead of 2nd due to the person i placed 2nd having higher collective marks...... although the scores were the same... it states in our rules that this is the deciding factor.

I have also been accused of cheating as i had inadvertantly wrote the incorrect order down (my fault) which i apologised for.... i got 3rd and 4th mixed up, but was left feeling like telling the whole yard to shove the show where the sun doesnt shine !

I put the arenas out, I organise the judges (mainly folks i know or riding instructors whom teach at the yard - and mostly for a bottle of wine) i do the times, orgainse the tests and courses, do the score sheets do the writing, and times for the jumping, organise the rossetts and work the results out, so much in fact i dont even try and do the shows anymore myself.

Ever wish you had never started something - tonight i feel like taking the files, rossetts and petty cash and giving it to the mum and the incorrectly placed person and telling them the next show is on Saturday the 17th July and they had better get their act together for it !

My best mate at the yard organises yard shows mainly for the younger ones on the yard. It is a thankless task and there is ALWAYS someone who ends up whining about something. Strangely, no one else ever volunteers to put in the hard work to organise the next one despite numerous people saying they could do a better job....... Oh, and when she suggested she couldn't be doing with the s**t anymore everyone cried that there wouldn't be any more shows!!!!

Ha, just typed out the same thing and then noticed this! What she said ^ (we're on the same yard)

this sounds horribly familiar! My friend and I organise our annual yard 'fun' show every year and every year we say 'never again'. The tears! the tantrums! And that's just the grown ups. Then the summer holidays come round and they start saying 'are we having a show this year?' and we cave in. But we are going to be strong this year and just say no - its someone else's turn to organise it.

Poor you! I would put up a notice on the yard board advertising for a new show organiser as current organiser thinking of quitting due to unkind, unthoughtful comments from competitors and their families. Let them sweat and see if any apologise. (Of course the really miserable ones won't think that it could possibly be about them!)

I think I would have an emergency weekend away at the time of the next show and ask for a volunteer to organise it.

Don't get me started on complaining mothers! (I'm a teacher.)
Definitely smile sweetly and say you do hope the new organiser will have their full support - whichever one of you would like the job. Then hand over all the stuff.
It really is a thankless task and well done you for doing it.
