Anyone else got a moody mare at the moment?

My mare seems to be in a really really bad mood this week, people are saying she might be coming into her first season which is meant to be the worst? I had a lesson today and she just did not want to jump...took her hacking yesterday and she is normally very good in traffic but was acting as if she had never seen a car before :S...Any ideas on the time of year and seasons or is she just being a moo?

my mare is coming into season!!!! had a bit of a rude awakening as happened to stare at her th wrong way today (obviously!!) and got a loud squel followed by a look that said "dont ever glance in my direction again"

Probably in first big season of Spring. Lots of posts on here saying a similar thing and same with my mare. Shes on NAF Oestress and has been all thro winter. Had a bad experience last Feb when I came off her mid-buck. Shes been a lot better this year AND shes just been through 10 months of box rest, just come back into work but cant go in a field yet so you can imagine the coiled spring I ride at the mo.

Mine too went straight out to buy her supplement .She couldnt bear me touching her sides and her girth being done up .Bit better after couple of days off due to snow ,just on her toes now.Im lucky she still loves her work but hates tack or rugs when shes coming into season.

Mines not moody but she has gone a bit looney recently, just bombing around the field (cutting up the grass ever so nicely), lost a shoe etc. Must be Spring on the way or something (doesn't feel like it)!

Sorry but spring is on the way, birds looking out for their patches and yes mares are coming into season.
I'm surprised that your filly is only coming in.

Hi friends,
I actually don't believe in the 'moody mare' thing, any more than i believe in 'women being difficult'.
My best, most sensible horses have all been mares.
And, as i feel the first signs of spring, birdies singing, i'm waking earlier - well, maybe mares are just simply enjoying spring also! (Then stallions get wrong idea? As ever.)

ooooo yes mine in coming into season. she was running round filed calling all the boys in the other fields. standing there with legs open. Did not wanna know her hay . unlike her.
