My fully clipped 5 yo developed what we can only think is a heat rash last week. I had put him into a slightly warmer rug, then started to develop spots over his lumbar and on his flanks. He has always been a very warm horse from a foal
By friday they were huge and swollen and he was beside himself itching, he had to be bathed in ice cold water on Friday morning at 8am and you could see the relief on his face. The steam was coming off his back. Vet visited and popped him onto prednisilone which he is still on.
He is wearing a waffle cooler only at night and a rainsheet in the day.
He has always been an overly hot horse, hence why in walk he sweats in winter hence the full clip to keep him comfy.
Anyone else has a really warm blooded beastie. Any tips for keeping skin healthy in the respect of supplements? Equidermis maybe? He normally has gorgeous shiny skin but seems to go into complete meltdown if something tips the balance
