Well i have got my little ichy visitors again this winter ...Both thighs this yr.. I wear long johns and jeans / jods most of the time i think im going to have to invest in some over trousers to at this rate. Does any one else have them and if so do you have any tips on how to get rid of them !!

I've had them on both thighs last year, but this time round I have managed to avoid them (until now anyway).
I bought Dublin padded overtrousers - they are boiling hot :D Should have got 2 pairs though, as you can only wear one pair for so long without washing them ;) So, I have 2 pairs of Lidl own Ladies Winter Performance trousers, they are very thin thermal type of leggins, I wear them under joggy bottoms. Don't wear jeans or snug jodhs, they make chilblains worse.
Salopettes (SP) or ski suits are good, too.

ETS - as for treating them when you get them, apart from keeping them warm, not scratching and putting an anti-itch cream of some sort on them, there isn't much you can do. Prevention is much better than cure :)

I used to get them on my toes, but not any more as have a selection of fab boots and socks. I didn't even know you could get them on your thighs until I read a post on here recently. A couple of weeks ago out riding my thighs did feel quite cold, wearing johds with Musto chaps over the top (it was -2 though). Next day I wore my merino long johns too - result. Warm thighs.

For yard duties, I am never without overtrousers. I have cheaper ones for when it's wet and a lined pair for when it gets cold. They really really help. They aren't expensive. You can get them for between £10 and £15.

Or, if you get really cold, and it's not for riding, skiing overtrousers. TK Maxx often have ski stuff on sale.

Also - ditch the jeans - cold cold cold <brrr>. I also tend not to wear johds unless I'm riding, I have various pairs of Fat Face cargo style trousers which I think are better as you are trapping air between the layers. My favourite pair are lined with jersey-cotton; but I can't find any more like that sadly. Also cords - not sexy but much warmer than jeans.

I get them and posted last night about a remedy my sister recommended - you can get it at smaller chemists and it's a stick of stuff of essential oils called SnowFire, costs about £2.50. It really soothes the heat and itching of chilblains and really eases any of those horrible dry finger cracks you get in this weather too. I have a corker of a chilblain on one toe at the moment and it's wonderful to rub this stuff on and it stops itching!

Thanks for the tip about Snowfire, I'll get some next time I go out. I've got them on my toes, but have had them on my thighs in the past and that was utterly miserable!

I too get them on my thighs - not yet this year due to the sun!! I always wear thermals and then jeans and then my winter weight Ornerlla Prosperri's from Nov to March. This way I stay chilblain free. They look so awful - the first year I got them, I thought I had a weird disease and was so worried about it. I find that my thighs (espec riding short) seem to get all the sting from the cold weather. Also drying wet hands on my legs doesn't help! I agree about the snow fire!

they haven't come up yet, obviously 2 pairs of socks and MH boots are doing the trick.... when they do I am going to give st james balm/antipeol ointment a go, as I was given a tube to try.

I used to get them on my thighs and butt.

But the trick to not getting them, is not so much keeping warm, it when you get in. Don't get straight in the shower or sit on the heater, the come up when you warm the skin up too fast, sit in the house for a bit and wait until your body temperture comes back up to normal slowly then you can jump in the hot shower. You should find you won't get them then. :D

I had it last year. I've bought ski trousers this year, only cost £20 from TKMaxx. I ride in them aswell and only take them off when I get home.I also bought some thermal socks from the sock shop. Couldn't be without them now :)

I used to get them on my thighs, haven't for years now, because I don't get into a hot bath or shower while my legs are still very cold. I'm pretty sure it's the sudden warming up that causes the chillblains, not the cold itself. That's what caused mine, and since I stopped doing it, I've escaped them.
Snowfire cured mine the last time I had them, but they take a long time to get rid of once they're there...
Jeans are the WORST material in this sort of weather imho. Tracksuit bottoms or similar (with fleecy lining) are far better.

Ski socks, gloves, insoles and a long coat help. Wear woolly tights under your trousers and don't wear a short jacket. I've been toasty in long ski socks and thick soled boots. I also wear balaclavas! lol Unfashionable but really warm under a hat.

yeah feet and thighs, tried hard not to get them but still did :-(. Snowfire is good so is Balmosa cream (smells just like deep heat) and sudocream is quite good too but messy!

Thanks guys im going to ditch the jeans and my friend has a pair of ski trousers to sell so hopefully ill keep them at bay ..

Aces high you made me laugh as i had a similar experience when i first noticed them a few yrs ago..Mine started as a perfect big circle on my thigh so i went to the doctor who diagnosed it as .........

something latin that stood for red spot disese !

How funny ! Luckily i managed to make my own diagnosis after doing some reserch !

Well after 5 days in the freezing cold at Tatts I have succumbed, I was wearing Ski Thermals and Ski Trousers and still got them, also did the whole warming up slow thing. I was warned when I first got it a few years ago as I had had it so bad (things raw and weeping as my local doctor had no idea what they were so eventually referred me to a skin specialist!). I am being driven mad by the itching, but I have Betnovate cream which once I start sitting up I will use.

Poor you Laafet. Have you had your thyroid checked? Circulatory problems can be a symptom of low thyroid function I learned recently. Apparently low thyroid is very under diagnosed and the blood tests aren't conclusive.
