It's officially nearly summer....my Hickstead Derby Meeting schedule came through the post on saturday morning

Anyone else going ? What you jumping ?

We''ll probably just do the Hickstead Amateur Champs, and the Novice Derby.....although, if i'm feeling mighty brave there is also the Grade C Championships to try for

I got mine!! Very excited - Hickstead is the highlight of my year!

Not sure what I'm doing yet, hopefully I'll still be in foxhunter so I'll do them. If not I'll probably just do the Amatuer champs - At the moment I'm not even brave enough to joke about the 1.30s! Will definitly do the Novice Derby as I really enjoyed doing that last year.

Unfortunately we're now well and truly out of Foxhunter so not much 'in between' heights for us

I doubt very much we'll try the 1.30m's.....but you never know

I need to persuade my extremely careful hoss that the stone wall in the Derby won't actually eat him though

We were clear to that point last year, and then he flatly refused to entertain the idea of jumping it

Might see you there though....good luck

And how do I get hold of one of these schedules.
Spent my early years in sussex so Hickstead was my local. I was there when Harvey gave his historic V sign.
Really fancy a trip down again.

Well, my schedule came in the post as i was there last year, but last year i got it off their website (www.hickstead.co.uk). I don't know if they've uploaded it yet though

The smallest classes are 1.10m.....for the Amateur Champs, and also for the Novice Futurity (effectively their version of Newcomers)

I were but a mere boy I hasten to add.

Not a derby I can jump in the Schedule

Can only do the amateurs

Rambo, good luck if you go for 1.30's but Am classes has restriction not open to anyone jumping 1.30 at the Derby show.

Was considering not renewing my BSJA membership until schedule came! now thinking again! Do need to get my confidence back for Foxhunter classes, but definately thinking about the am and novice derby - just a long way with one horse if anything happens on first day. had two the first time i went, made it worth while cause ground was a bit too hard for one of them.

Yes....you're right about the restriction....but it's actually a bit ambiguous

It says you can't jump the Am classes if you are competing in classes OVER 1.30m at the same show.....that doesn't state whether it's the 1st round or the JO that counts
tongue.gif
Last year there were a few of the top pony riders competing on their horses too....and they would have been jumping 1.30m tracks in the pony classes.

It's highly unlikely that i'll be doing the Grade C Champs anyway tbh....just a pipe dream really

ETS: Just double-checked and it seems the wording is slightly different this year...and it is not competing in classes at 1.30m or above so definitely won't be doing the Grade C now lol!

Whoa I didn't realise you had to buy membership too - ouch, expensive

Yep.....afraid so

Think it cost me about £140 to jump 3 classes last year....although the prize money is quite good so if you do get in the top placings it does numb the pain a little
wink.gif
I might just join 'per day' this year though...because there's next to nothing for us to jump at the RIHS meeting unless you want to jump 1.StupidM classes
