Sisters horse sings, in a grumpy manner, when asked to work in the rain. We both nearly fell off laughing this evening as the ID was singing a grumpy song as we rode along the road in the rain

Anybody else have a horse who passes comment on the weather?

Must be a ID thing, mine grumbles and moans when you get him in from the field and when you give him his brekkie he does this kind of humming thing though i wouldnt call it singing

My Section D does this thing on a hack where he makes all these low grumbling grunting noises. You know those old fashioned teddy bears where if you tip them upside down and back again they give a low growly bear noise? Well that's what Sunny does! Sometimes the other horses look in astonishment, wondering whether Sunny is part ned, part grizzly bear! I suppose it could be seen as singing if you imagined Lee Marvin warming up in the shower for Wandering Star lol!!!

My horse squeals her content when I canter round in the school. She sometimes does it when we showjump much to everyone's mirth - it can only be described as 'Eeeeeeeeeeee' as we go round

I love it when she does it because I know she is happy and enjoying herself.

My WB used to make that sort of noise when hacking and sometimes when warming up in the school.

I thought it was just his way of telling me he wasn't keen on hacking til I get an osteopath out and she asked if he made a low grumbling noise when execising!

Turns out he was really tight through his diaphragm and was making this noise and he struggling to get his breathing correct

I wished I'd asked earlier, he had made the noise for 2 years! She treated him and he stopping making the noise for as long, then she treated him again and he stopped all together. During the second treatment he did a massive strech and his belly near hit the floor, it was very much a 'ah that feels good' sort of release.

YorksG trust you and your sister to have a vocal horse!!

Frankie sings when he is seperated from his mate on a hack.

First time he did it it was after a fun ride and we dropped his friend off at the trailer and we hacked home alone. The next hour and a half he went from screaming/screeching at the top of his lungs to tuneful warbling to a rather hoarse gruffing, humphing and puffing. I laughed so much I was crying, we must have been a sight to see!

I do remember after a particularly tuneful verse seeing a horse in a paddock we hacked past looking the most astonished I think I have ever seen a horse look!!

He also wheezes and groans when he thinks he has worked hard enough in lessons. Since he only does it when within earshot of our instructor or anyone who happens to be watching at the time, I'm not inclined to believe him!

To kazs, she doesn't like working in the wet, but other than that she is a very contented girl

Naturally, it wouldn't be ours if it didn't make it's presence felt

Mine are quiet compared to all of yours Erik (WB) grunts when he goes for a wee and does a sort of ahhh noise which i suppose is relief.

My friends mare Puzzle groans when ridden just before she really starts to give some stunning work. I miss them (they emigrated to USA at the start of the year) as whenever we heard that we knew we would see great things!!

My mare "chunters" a lot when I'm in the feed room, sounds like shes laughing sometimes!!

No mine doesn't sing, but OH is adamant that Ludo enjoys it when OH sings to him. Swears he walks along in time to OH singing. Have to say I'm not around when this is happening thank goodness. Ludo's favourite song by the way is allegedly "The Deadwood Stage" from the musical Calamity Jane (ask your mother about this is you're under 40 LOL!)
