anyone else have a wimp who doesn't like mane pulling...

One of mine does! If he mutual grooms me he doesn't do my back he does the back of my head and it blimmin hurts if you don't move in time!
Ha! I knew there'd be at least one other. My first pony did it if I was sitting/lying on the grass near her relaxing. I was a child at the time (in the stone age) btw for safety peeps.

My boy's mane was pulled for the first time last year, and he was fine with it. He's got a shetland type mane too which is thick and lies on both sides. He only got fidgety towards the end which is perfectly understandable as he's only a youngster and standing still for too long is very challenging!
He falls asleep when having his tail done, he loves it.

If he objected to either I'd just have to find another way around it - solocombing etc. If they don't like it I wouldn't pursue it.

Unfair to call the horse a whimp - it probably hurts ! One of mine is hogged and the other's mane is thinned and shortened using a shearing comb. Top of tails are done with clippers.

My old mare didn't mind her mane being pulled, so as long as she was ok with it so was I.
