I have a 15.2 cob who i love. But at my yard there is an attitude that hes not good enough 4 times now people have suggested i buy a better horse (bearing in mind that he beat 2 of them at dressage and will one day beat(so maybe not beat but try... lol) them at jumping...). Today a girl with a very beautiful 5year old warmblood said 'when you stop playing round with Henry you should get a PROPER horse' i mean WTF. I adore my horse hes great... Its a recurring attitude, not just from her but others too (there are only two cobs at the yard)
so does anyone else have this problem?
(also i told the girl to go f###k herself) lol.

Ignore her - who will have their horse for the longest, I wonder? Your boy sounds lovely

Keep up the good work and prove em wrong!

This sort of down your nose attitude is one we could all do without as a happy hacker with a big frisian and a Welsh cob D I can get quite a bit of this from the nearby diva livery yard. But I enjoy my horses and scrubbed up they can compete with the best of them so take no notice

What have most of them got a Thoroughbred.

I love cobs.
grin.gif
Would never buy a thoroughbred

Well done you.

If it gets that bad move yards and find a cobby yard their best.

But especially the ones you beat at dressage I'd say 'I'm sorry where did you come in the dressage'. Oh yes after me. Kiss my ass
grin.gif

Maybe it's YOU who should look for a real horse not a poser. God it makes me so angry that peeps are like this
mad.gif
do you want me to come and give them a bob on the nose
grin.gif

Just ignore them. I bet your cob is lovely and they're just jealous!

I ride a 14.2 pony (she's a bit of a wee bog pony bless her) and is an angel in my eyes (even though she's a grumpy moo) and we get looked down on by those riding big horses from a nearby livery yard. They have a really snotty attititude and turn their noses up at the little ponio who is a star and does everything asked whereas they seem to struggle to control their horses.

My heavy horse used to get ignored for yard dressage teams as well. That was despite us beating a few of them and winning the local RC dressage
mad.gif

However, after a few of them have had falls off their 'perfect' warmbloods and 'pretty' TBs, there's been a few comments about how nice it would be to have a much safer horse
laugh.gif

It's even worse for my other mare, she just gets completely ignored and never gets commented on at all

I always liken a type of horse to a type of man. Not everybody loves a 6'6 blonde hunk. I personally have a bit of a thing for Ray Winstone but many of my friends laugh at me for it!

I'll be honest, cobs aren't my thing, but I appreciate them and would never dream of telling my friend who has one to get a 'proper' horse! She loves him dearly & he has done wonders for her. She however doesn't really like my horse (16.3 Anglo-Arab), she thinks he is too slim & leggy, but she doesn't tell me to go and get a cob.

Tell them to go jump, he is your baby, not theirs. Horses for courses and all!

I've got warmbloods that I love and really enjoy riding. My mum has also got a 14.2 haflinger pony who I have great fun on and hope to do some decent level BD with in the future. I ended up selling my arab that I dressage trained as I found it so frustrating that hardly any other competitors would take me seriously on him because of his breeding. At the end of the day, any breed of horse is just as special to their owners as the competition beasties out there. As long as you love your cob, don't let the others make you feel as if you are below them. By the way, many cobs have fab movement and are more than capable of going extremely well when trained properly and we have all seen cobs with huge jumps

minkymoo I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else with thoroughbred, arabs etc. its like you say horses for courses (beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

Oh and before anyone else jumps on me. Yes I know all horses originate from a sort of thoroughbred. But then again man originate from apes. But I wouldn't marry one

(Or did I)

Aww, thank you.
The white faced one, Chloe is the unlikely dressage star (shire x clydesdale)
smile.gif
She's my mum's and off to a riding school this weekend for a new career.
The ignored one is the bay - she's just a plain bay mare to everyone else, but she's the best horse I've owned
smile.gif

I had a norweigian Fjord x TB and people's attitude were (and still are with his new home) that he coouldn't possibly jump. I just loved watching the faces when he would flew a fence - it was brilliant. I remember beating a certain famous eventer showjumping and it was class

Yes, until a couple years ago my only horse was a 13.2hh Arab x Welsh B, chestnut mare who I am really the maximum height for at 5 foot 2, however she was a rescue case and not really suitable for a teenager or child due to her quirkiness when being ridden. People were forever telling me I should stop wasting my time with her and get a bigger, 'normal' horse, ten years on I'm very pleased I didn't and although I'm too heavy to ride her, she means the world to me and is never going any where.
Tell people to mind their own business and don't let their stupid comments hurt you.

My YO incinuated that I was too heavy for my TB, and that she was a fruit loop and actually planted it into my parents heads to sell her. Chiropractor/behaviourist came and told her it was a load of b*llucks
grin.gif

There is no way I would sell Poutu, she has her quirks but I love her dearly. YO or anyone else that tells me to sell her (Inc. my parents thanks to YO, and a few other liveries) get told to shove their ideas where the sun don't shine. Moral of this story. If you are happy with your horse, and you have fun, who gives a shyte if its "not as good as theirs" because their horses event, or just because your a content happy hacker ( I can bet that they wish sometimes they had a reliable coblet to ride :3).. at the end of the day you always have the best horse in your eyes.
grin.gif

I've had the same thing except I own a TB. When I started doing BD events a number of people looked down on him and I heard a number of comments about it, not all so nice! But my dear skinny leggy TB has made it to the regionals three times in a row and beats the hands off a number of WBs everytime out.
Don't judge a horse by it's looks alone! The funny thing is everyone always says to me, whilst at these dressage shows, 'your horse must be a fab eventer'. Truth be told he can't jump to save his life, that's why we're out doing dressage!

Ignore them!! I get the same - namely from the kids with the fancy showy ponies!! One even said that Beau was "an ugly T*** of a horse and why would anyone buy anything that ugly?!". That made me laugh cos this kid is into showing and showing folk have told me to show him in Cob classes as he is a proper cob and very good looking (jsut not like her skinny pony!).

I mean he can clear 4ft if he wants, has turned out a decent enough medium dressage test (not with me) to get placed and is an XC/hunting machine and has been strongly liked by every instructor we have had for HIS attitude to work and versatility Yes he doesnt have 'breeding' but so what?! When he actually gives me cuddles and falls asleep with his head on me or he is trying his heart out in the school who cares!

Just look at the posh inbred humans in this country - off their nuts!! So why would I want a horse like that :P

Ha ha! Gosh no, I am not offended at all! Imagine if we all liked the same thing! Awful!! Like I said, my friend really didn't like my boy (to ride, not to look at I hasten to add!) but I really don't mind at all.

I just think it is sad that people have to be insulting to peoples horses just because they are not their thing! It is mean and snobbish!

**whispers - i thought I didn't like Arabs - and look what I ended up with!! Sssh!

I would change yards to one where the people are less shallow!

I'm afraid I have no time for this sort of attitude. Always nice to beat people who think like that in a competition though
wink.gif

I got told to to replace my TB with a cob!
but i love my boy, hes the best horse I've owned..albeit a bit loopy

and i took my friends 5 yr old clear round jumping on Sunday and went clear twice! but the mare is a real heinz 57 (think cob x hunter pony type x something else) and shes a beautiful coloured but we got looked down on by a group of people riding their big greys in matching jods and jackets....and we went clear and they didn't
laugh.gif

ignore the other people, your horse is obviously a diamond and beat the others at dressage so tell them where to shove it
laugh.gif

My friend has the same attitude at her yard. She has a stunning irish cob, who is an absolute darling, whereas everyone else has a thoroughbred. They constantly look down on the two of them and always make snide comments (I'm not saying TB owners are generally like this btw, dont want to start arguments hehe). This cob is lovely to ride, has amazing paces, is a very quick learner and will take you hunting for the first time.
If you love him s0d what other people say.
And well done for telling that girl where to go lol!

I had a traditional coloured cob (gypsy type) when I was in London and could hack him everywhere as he was so safe. There where some people that looked down at us however 30 years later I am still riding but most of them gave up years ago. (Probably because they where over-horsed)! I was also told by one of the riding instructresses who now competes at dressage at a very high level that she thought I got more fun from my horse than anyone else did from theirs. As it happens I had the horse for 18 years until he sadly died. I still have the next horse. Flashy horses may look good but in my eyes they are very care-intensive and their temprements have much to be desired. Most of them need a lot of regular daily work to keep them calm, sane and happy.
