Decent hay or haylege... The summer has been so shocking that local supplies to me are running out very very fast, heledge has gone up from £25 to £30 per bale and the hay is so dusty that the barn looked like it was on fire the other day when shaking the hay doing the hay nets :(

The quality is poor yet the price is rising... it's gonna be a long long winter :(

Plenty down here, we cut our neighbours field which is usally sparse and got so much lovely quality too, that we won't need to buy any in at all (weather permitting) as we got more than 40 bales more than we used last year. Prices seem to be similar or slightly less than last year.
You're obviously in the wrong area . However the year before last was a different issue, no-one would supply us as we were new customers and they had no hay for us!

The amount of wet weather up here has prevented farmers getting on their fields... the local farmer who we buy from has only managed to get one cut at the begining of the year and hasn't been able to get on the field since then, he now has over 100 acres un-touched :( everyone with in a 20 mile radius is in a similar position... it sucks!!

The weather has been shocking... I was amazed a couple of weeks ago when I went down south for a Hunter Show and their ground was rock hard with cracks in it, our fields have been like winter fields since June :(

Not too bad here in Norfolk. Ours was very late cut, not a problem for our good doers but will need to be dampened. Mind you we dampened everyone's hay indoors or out because we have one with COPD.

Think I have said it before Lea 840 - your cob is a stonker. Good job you live so far away or I might have snuck up with my balaclava on.......,

Aww thanks hun... she is a little love, need to get some hay sorted soon or I might just have to send her down to you for a good feeding :)

We're North west too, and our supplier says there shouldn't be a problem for haylage, but probably will for hay.. We've paid £30 for the last couple of years though. Farmers local to us didn't get as many cuts as normal, but got more in the cuts they did as the grass grew so much this year..

I'm the other end - Lancs Yorks border near Manchester.. Our supplier goes over to auctions on the Yorkshire side, places like York where the ground has been better.

Have you looked on e bay? Often there is hay on there...

We're in pretty much the same boat, (not very far away from Honey). There has been very little hay made near us, although I did buy a small bale from a farmer friend yesterday for £3.50, which I didn't think was a bad price.
We started to use haylage a couple of years ago when hay was scarce, ours has gone up £5 per big bale this year. My neighbour managed to cut his hay in the one dry week in August, the one field will feed his 2 horses for the winter.

Just had a look on Ebay... but the nearest is 50 miles away, but I will keep my eye on it every couple of days, I hadn't even thought of looking on ebay for it :)

If you're struggling Pearlsasinger let me know - I'm sure our supplier would deliver over to you. We pay £5 for hay though, but its great quality. His big bales are £35 I think (haylage)..
