Anyone else hear it's going to be the worst winter ?

keep hearing it mentioned from various sources, lots of snow which will be laying on the ground for about a month , record breaking winds and low temperatures , might get some extra shavings in !
 
I'm sure they say this every single year and it rarely comes to fruition.

Way things are going I would imagine we need to stock up on the water wings though!

yeh' i keep bein told this to, aslong as it stops rainin' im happy
 
we were told that last year though and it was probably the mildest winter ever... none of the horses hve grown coats so im not really believing it but im prepared if it does but yes i have been told, we already have a "snow procedure" put in place at work and been told what departments we will move on to as many people live far away so we have to cover them :o
 
My horses grew in very thick healthy shiny coats much earlier this year than last, so I was thinking I believe the doom forecasts!

The same as when I saw crows trying to build nests in the barn in April. I knew we were in trouble and that summer was going to be a disaster!

Let's hope they are wrong as usual. But after the summer we did'nt have and the jetsteam influence still i have a sinking feeling they could be right :(
 
According to the Daily fail, minus 20 is to be expected. The gritters are out tonight, for a minus 5 - URGH !! - with all the damned flooding and surface water, it's going to be skid city.
 
According to Metcheck in my area, its meant to snow/sleet from the 6th Dec through to the 14th Dec with a max temp of 3degress. I'm crossing everything that its wrong!!
 
have already dug out my ice grippers ready to get across the yard - turns into an olympic ice rink - we should have "come skating on horses on ice" really.

The other winter when it was bad I was having to fill canisters of water from my bath at home to take to the yard for over a month because all the pipes were frozen. One night, carrying one canister gingerly through the main yard, trying my best not to slide about on the ice, when there was a loud cracking sound, and the top of the canister came off, spilling litres and litres all over the already frozen solid concrete! :eek:

I had to go to the local garage and buy bags and bags of salt. :mad:

This absolutely ^^^^
My TB has grown a really thick coat this year (he never has before) and resembles a yak. I think he knows something I don't.
 
Well, that's nothing! Here's a story topping story!

We had to fill our water troughs from the stream. A line of four of us, big buckets between us, and a small bucket for the end arms... Across the farm to fill three troughs and the ones in the cowsheds.

So there!
 
I could believe it being honest! I'd welcome some dry snowy freezing weather to get a break from all the mud!

Both of mine have grown really thick coats, oldie looks like a mammoth! Pony has pretty much grown in the clip I gave her in october, you can hardly even see the blanket clip lines!!

Its comming off again soon but with plenty of rugs I'm sure she will be fine in the cold ;)

I thought the signal for winter coats was the sunset sunrise times, not how cold it is, am I wrong:confused: Anyhow bring it on I say shift some weight..and the horses:D

I was also at one with the mud this morning........when I tripped over a haynet and sat in the glorious mud......sadly I cannot blame anyone for leaving the haynet on the ground other than myself.

My pony club lessons about running a tidy yard seem to have been forgotten !

pah, lightweight!, i get my water from the stream all year round, sometimes the stream floods and comes to me but mostly i have to fetch and carry:p

What ! now that is dedication.

I am totally spoilt, my wonderful landlord put me a heated tap in after that 2010 winter nightmare we had. I say several hail mary's every time it freezes as I watch the water flow into the many buckets it takes to water my lot.

This guy is amazing - really interesting too what he has to say - some of it though is very techi!!

Basically, he is possibly .... forecasting snow for next Thurs/Fri/Sat and now Accuweather is saying the same! Long range is impossible though so am not bothered by the rumours. Anyway, whatever happens .... I want a white Christmas!!!!!

Exactly what I said to other half. They say it every year. Winter is always guaranteed to be cold, damp and dark. Sometimes we get lots of snow. Sometimes a bit. I just make sure my fuel is topped up as often as poss, always keep a supply of logs inside the conservatory and know where the grit and snow shovel is!

Oh and keep lots of hay/feed in reserve, so I don't have to worry about those nuclear war preparation panic buyers!!
