anyone else like the winter??

I love the Autumn more than Winter.....but prefer Winter to Summer. Clean, clipped horses / no flies / hunting / racing. Routine etc. etc.

I like everything except the dark! Also bit of a pain as I can't really ride in my field too much, but that's my own fault for not having a floodlit school I suppose! One day...

Yep, I love the cold. Not the rain so much but winter and autumn are my favourite seasons. Hoping for a really cold snap this year - gets rid of the mud! Can't beat hacking on a frosty sunny morning.

Yes. I love the cold, & I quite like mucking out when mine eventually come in. I love it when they are clipped & can be kept clean. I even like the fact its dark early, there's something nice about it. Only thing I don't like is the effect it has on my riding.

Hate it !! haha!!

The field is like a swamp at the moment meaning our little fat cob loves rolling and covering her rug in crap aswell as her legs (pig oil and slufer is helping alot with this though). To dark to ride when we get in so limited to weekend hacks when she is excited and if you stick her on a stubble field turns into a fatter verison of Buckaroo :p

However i must say a hack on a icy morning down the fields is beautiful

Never thought I'd say this but I am enjoying going up before work! I have always enjoyed my sleep, and the alarm going off at half 6 does still make me grumble a bit :p But once I'm up and there and snuggling my boy and doing my jobs, I love it. I used to always get them turned out for me when I was a livery before, as I was at school/college.

There are some things I prefer about winter. The horses are all in their stables (go out for 3 hours a day in the sand turnout), so are nice and clean and easier and quicker to get tacked up and schooled. Of course, it is a lot of work for me. All that mucking out, changing rugs and turnout/bring in. But in the summer it seems more of an effort to walk down the fields and get them in. Also, I absolutely hate poo picking the fields. I'd much rather muck out.

Winter isn't as bad as it seems so far! Have only had my horse since september but quite enjoy mucking out and making sure he's cosy as well as all the extra work such as preparing his feeds etc. Although, the deep mud by the gates is a pain and I can't ride in the evening as the school isn't floodlit.
Having thermal gloves and a fluffy scarf makes life ten times easier! But really looking forward to summer when I can get my boy fit, start going to local shows and hack in the evenings!

I love cold, crisp winters where you can see your breath! I love clipped horses, buying big, snuggly rugs, the routine, having a gossip whilst everyone is mucking out!

However, because I work on the days I'm not at college, and don't get down to the yard til after 5 on college days, I do miss hacking out :(

I get ridiculously excited about Winter. I like the cameraderie down the yard, you're all in it together with freezing hands and toasty horses, deep beds and hot mash feeds.

I am very sad.

:)

I love winter too and not just with horses but generally. I dread the summer with the heat, lawn cutting etc and having to wear flimsy clothes.

I prefer autumn and spring to winter and summer.

I don't mind the cooler, crisp evenings - they are the best for riding but when it gets too cold then we end up stuck at the yard as the roads get too slippy to trailer out or hack.

It's very wet here at the moment but I don't mind it that lasts into December as you can still ride and compete in the wet but you can't when it's freezing cold!

meh i am a winter disliker as I really feel the cold and even with good gloves its not nice. this time of year is ok as its not freezing but I really dont enjoy feeding horses on ice or lugging water out for them when the pipes freeze. they are fine and are happy out on snow or ice and can cross it easily but the foals seem to have a lot of fun seeing who can make me fall over fastest or drop the most feed :( I don't appreciate cold rain down my neck or horsees giving me a nuzzle then dribbling a mouthfull of water over me either. think I need to get better thermals for this year and then I may not be such a misery when it gets really cold.

Only good thing about winter is cosy nights in front of the fire. Oh and no flies- that's 2 things. Otherwise it's pants. Hardly any light and most winters I can't ride for about 2 months.

First winter with my new horse. So far so good, happy horse with a big pile of hay when out24/7 and cosy horse in a warm clean comfy stable when it's rainy or windy. As its still only November though, maybe a bit early to judge...
