As it is my big 5 0 this year I really want to have a special holiday. Have not been on holiday for 10 years - since my 40th when we went to Canada (including a couple of days on a ranch). This year I am planning on going to the USA and riding on a commemorative ride on Appaloosas in Idaho/Montana (roughly 70 miles in 5 days). It is called the Chief Joseph Ride and is held annually. Lots to plan, lots to think about have not been this excited in years! (Yes I probably do lead a sad life!). I do have a couple of appaloosas so it is not just a whim.
The info says that you have to be prepared to spend 6 hours a day in the saddle (western) which worries me slightly but not as much as someone who hopes to come too she hasn't ridden in 4 years!

What horsey holidays are you planning this year?

Yupp - I'm going for a classical dressage week at the ranch of Nuno Baptista in Alentejo, Portugal. Cannot wait!!!

Oh yeah, I have two friends coming with me - neither of them ride as much as me, but you know what - that's their look out! I do keep telling them that they need to be reasonably fit and the one has taken up yoga ( !!! ) rather than ride her horse more. Mmmm - I know!

Where are yer going then? Me being nosey! My friend has said something about swimming and cycling - when she has several horses she could ride too! (if she put her mind to it).

Oh being dumb blonde (well not gray yet anyway) - that is YOUR post above it - sorry sneaking a peak when I should be working (to pay for my holiday!!)........

Yep :) just booked to ride across the Great Hungarian Plain :):):)

The ride in Montana sounds like a great thing to do - I am sure your friend will be stiff for the first couple of days but will soon adapt (said hopefully whilst thinking about thundering across Hungary )

I will be going on a 4 day riding holiday with my pony in North Yorkshire in May.

This will be our 3rd year and have to say I would not miss it for the world as it's great.

I'm looking at Ranch holidays in the USA at the moment. The thing that worries me is "what do you wear?" I am really surprised to see pictures of riders wearing JEANS.
Cue lots of nasty rubs in places you don't want to think about. What do cowboys wear underneath their jeans?

I taking my horse to thetford Forest this September it will be our 3rd time. We love it loads of lovely hacking and playing in the rivers.

I was hoping to do this but I've found out today that my contract will not be extended a further six months in either a full time or part time capacity due to lack of funding for the position. Totally gutted. But if I could I'd do this again like a shot, having gone three times now int eh last five years. http://www.mkec.co.uk/page/images/threedayevent/Septschedule2010.pdf
