Anyone else putting horses out 24/7

Some of the horses on our yard are out overnight now, whilst the weather is dry. If I just had my younger lad then o would too, but snip has muscle problems and it's just too cold still, so have kept mine in over night.

Also snip has to be muzzled, and there's not enough grass to be able to keep his muzzle on over night, but too much for him to not wear one! Far easier, without a horse like snip, to carry on bringing in!!

Yes me!! I put my boy out for the first time on Thurs eve! I wouldn't normally have done this early but the other lady on the yard wanted hers to go out and hers won't stay out on his own!! I turned him out well rugged, with hay and his normal feed, and guess what...he survived!! I did check him several times up till 10pm and then again at 5.30am, I,m terrible!!

He seems to be really enjoying it and no mucking out is great!!

Most of mine are out and have been for a few weeks. Only a couple have rugs on now, an oldie and a TB. The rest are native types and are enjoying not being in.

Our two cobs have only been stabled for 3 weeks this winter, been out 24/7 the rest of the time. No rugs on anymore either, both have blanket clips and aren't moulting yet so they are still quite hairy.

Mine have been out every other nighttime and every day time. It just feels too early and im sure the april showers will not fail to arrive so I dont want them out full time to be in again full time should the weather turn so im going for a half and half compromise as would be a shame to waste the dry weather we are having (although grey clouds are above and threatening to rain)

You Lucky Lot!!!!! Ours don't go out in the daytime til May and then come in at night. We have a little turnout paddock for winter and thats it!

Yes, Charlie a tb went out 24/7 on tues night for the first time. Still fed twice a day, rugged overnight and naked during the day. Coping well and loving being out.

Mine has been in at night all winter, but started coughing a couple of weeks ago (dusty hay I think) so as it's mainly been dry he's been out 24/7 for a couple of weeks, heavyweight NZ on at night and lightweight during the day (or no rug for the last few days as it's been about 18 degrees during the day here in the south). Unless the weather turns really awful I'm going to try to leave him out now as he is used to it and has very good rugs. He's the messiest horse imaginable in the stable so I'm really enjoying not having to muck out, also so much cheaper on bedding and hay. And his cough has gone!

Yep mines out 24/7 and hes been for about 3-4 weeks. She is rugged at night naked by day and LOVING it!! So am I ... have a lie in a weekends, no mucking out and a cheaper monthly bill!! Shes a connie x ID ... go on give it a go if you can :-)

Mine went out at the end of february which is unheard of for me:eek:. Amazingly, they have survived :oand Arnie is the only one left with a rug on at night (and thats just a rainsheet). They didnt come in till the end of October - this has been a great winter:D

I'm quite happy to bring them in again if the weather turns. They had a couple of nights back in when it snowed.

No, purely because mine are in at night all year round as my companion pony is muzzled and has sweetitch and my mare gets stressed if her routine is changed.

The horses that were stabled at night have now been out overnight for a week wearing light weight turnouts and naked during the day. The come in for a couple of hours during the day for a feed and a kip and then to be ridden.

Those that wintered out are now out at night without rugs but do have access to good shelter.

We have a lot of contented horses as the moment!

Mine is out all year round too and i changed down a rug a few weeks ago. On the sunny days he is naked and rugged at night as still a bit cold.
It's great though as even though i don't mind mucking out, he seems generally happier to be a 24/7 outer, it's great that he can burn off energy or anything else when he likes and now the weather is better he is even happier.

We've year round 24/7 turnout but most liveries choose to bring in at night during the 'winter'. We don't normally start turning these ones out over night regularly until end April, early May but this year with the weather being the way it has, they've all been out 24/7 for the past 10 days. Long may it last.... :)

Ours went out on Sunday for the first time. Rugged at night naked during the day. Still feeding twice a day. Other livery wants hers to still have hay but mine doesn't need it so I'm haying hers whilst I'm riding mine! I've not emptied my stable completely incase we get some bad weather and need to come back in. I'm not temping fate .

Mine are out all year round.
But now in light weights at night and naked during the day, but they could go naked all the time but want to keep them a little warmer to get the coats out.

my youngster lives out, so obviously she is out.

I've just put my veteran arab x welsh out 24/7 too. fingers crossed he is ok with this, as last summer he looked terrible despite me shovelling feed into him, now this year, my yard owners father, who is on the yard a lot, very horsey etc was with me in the field moving a trough yesterday and didn't even recognise him he looks so good, so I just have to monitor his weight now.

My pregnant mare is still in at night and will be until after she foals.

Mine practically live out so are still out, they have been naked for 2 days! As the weather has been very hot they have been coming in for a few hours to cool off and be fed as we limit our spring grazing for the ponies so they don't get laminitis, they will be on the proper summer grazing at the end of the month.

Hi

In my yard we tend to turn out all our horses as soon as the clock goes forward. They are all rugged at night and get a feed and hay pm. It all depends on how dry your ground is and how much grass you've got. Here in Kent the ground dried up extreamly early this spring and we have plenty of turnout and grass.
Everyone is now happy and calm again, including me as I'm now poo picking fields, not stables, a much nicer job!:)

Ours decided last weekend that they were NOT coming in for the night. Mine is out rugless, in a grazing muzzle for half the day. He is fine! His winter coat is coming out in clumps and yesterday he was sweating just standing still.

Out 24/7 all year. Has been rugless last few days as well. Was clipped at the start of winter. I don't 'do' stabling!! Horse does have access to a stable that's left open but doesnt use it much.
