Just switched back to my 'winter' routine - riding early am before work .

It's a wrench getting out of bed but it sets me up for the day!

Poor mare was a bit shocked this morning mind...

I used to when both me and the horse lived at my mum and dad's farm, and all I had to do was stumble outside to the stables! Now that the horse lives 30 minutes in the wrong direction with no possibility of a shower afterwards it's not really possible...

I quite miss the crisp early mornings though, even if the horse got away with murder due to my early morning low blood sugar jelly legs!

I like to but have to get up at 5 to manage it and be back home in time - horsey is quite grumpy as its still dark. I do like going for a quick hack around the lane at that time though as most people and cars are in bed - it feels a bit odd riding along in the dark as I can't see the ground

Was up nice and early this morning so going riding would have been nice but hubby more or less has me under house arrest as i have shingles.

Bless him, he got up at 5.30 this morning and went to the horses for me. Even if they are out in the field i go check they are ok. YO says its pointless as he checks all horses in the morning and before bed but always nice to see for myself.

Love riding in the morning, certainly wakes me up!

Me!!!

I switched about 3 weeks ago.
Yes Parsley - I agree! - It is odd riding in the dark! - We havent even got a menage so I have to ride around the outside of one of the fields!

It's a hard slogg getting up at 5:15 but it has to be done to get all my jobs done (including walk my 2 doggies!) Then ufortunately back home to get ready for work and be there for 8:30

i'm lucky as I work from home, so quite often find myself sat at the comp with wet hair at 9 o-clock having just jumped out of the shower.

having said that, not riding at all the mo because of whiplash so am very jealous of you all!

Did my first morning ride this winter this morning. Horse is on box rest so grazed him for a bit first to keep him sweet so I was freezing by the time I got on. 20 mins walking in the school didn't do much to warm me up either, but I'm so pleased to be able to ride him I don't really mind.
I tend to school or lunge before work though as don't have time to do any decent hacking.

Yes. Me and OH get up at 5.30, i lunge 2 while he tacks up 2, gets feeds ready etc then its a quick whizz around the block -45 mins off road- rugs back on, feed , rush back home (lucky OH works from home) get changed and usually arrive at the office at ten past nine! As i usually work my lunch hour its not a problem.

I love it been doing it all year i'm much fresher and energetic in the morning feel too tired in the evening after day at work.

Love watching the sunrise at the mo, i dont hack out tho, too scared of daft drivers who dont expect a horse at that time in the morning but do have a nice big field and access to a quiet lane to cool off after working.

I have got to start this on Monday. Been putting it off but the evenings are just getting to dark now and i hate riding in the school all the time! Does wake me up and make me feel better, it is definitely a good start to the day.

Used to but now I am on a yard that is further away from home I get him turned out for me so not there in the mornings. Love riding first thing, specially when its freezing, blue skies and sunshine.

Iused to get up at 5.30 before school in the summer and go for hacks along the road, loved it so much, not a vehicle in sight and it was so quiet. But now I don't have anything in the day (at the moment) I go whatever time I like in the day.

Once the yard is open I'll be getting up at 5.30 every morning

so once I've done all my jobs then I'll go riding.

Yep - started on Monday

I'm really enjoying it - esp as theres no one to talk to so can do the horses in speedy quick time! Plus it'll be lighter now in the mornings than the evenings so that makes it nicer.
