I have had horses for nearly 20 years and for about 18 of those years I have been hacking out year round no matter what the weather. This year seems to be the worst mud I have ever encountered!

I have been at the livery yard for 4 years and it is at the bottom of a super steep hill but the mud isn't just at the bottom of the hill as I would expect (and could cope with) it's EVERYWHERE!

The tractors had to harvest in the wet so all the lovely stubble fields are scarred with huge tracks (like over a foot deep in places)

We ended up in what can only be described as a bog on Sunday afternoon while the sun shone! my girl sunk right in past her knees (I leapt off fast than you can say S**T!) then nearly she nearly fell but manage to clamber out. We came home covered in mud and in a very bad mood

The only positive is that I can now officially say my Old Mac G2 hoof boots would stay on through anything, I thought I'd be digging around in the bog to retrieve my boots but somehome they came out still attach (and they hadn't even slipped) it's the only silver lining I can find to this awful summer that has passed.

Although we have some mud I can't say it's dreadful. Maybe we are just lucky here in Cheshire. My fields are on running sand so they are relatively dry so far!!! Hope you get some drier weather soon SS.

I have to agree. Our field is fine but the tracks that I normally use during the summer are full of huge puddles and mud whereas they would normally be completely dry.

Yes, we've got loads of mud. They've ploughed up most of our stubble now, but even on the tops of the hills I kept finding boggy bits. Had to be really careful because my horse hasn't done much 'great outdoors' and I don't want her to get injured or lose her confidence. Roads round us are really busy and there don't seem to be any circular routes unless you want to go out for about four hours, so don't know what I'll do if it's a wet winter.
I'm having to try and ride out quite a bit because our arena is flooded AGAIN and I'm not sure how much lunging in the round pen she'll put up with.
Come back global warming, all is forgiven!

We are really lucky our fields are well drained and while most horses in the area are paddling ours are happy bunnies and we can still ride in the field. Have to we have no school.
