Anyone else sporting any Horse related injuries at the moment?

OH and I sporting injuries both from Easter weekend. OH got dragged off under a tree and broke a rib (well, if you let your horse eat grass under the tree and then turn round to look elsewhere, what do you expect!!!) and same said horse spooked as I brought him in from the field the next day, sending me flying resulting in a cracked and bruised vertebrae.

OH still can't sleep lying down and I can't do sitting trot - both very grumpy!!

Poor horse getting a bit of a 'reputation' on the yard and he really is a kind cuddly sort normally.

Think we've come off lightly though compared to some of you others and sharing my thoughts for the child with the head injury - sounds dreadful.

Injury 1 - ACL joint damage to my shoulder - 2 operations haven't fixed it and the only option now is replacement (not sure what they replace!), which I've put off for the time being.

Injury 2 - 2 broken toes - horse took fright when the tractor in the field next to us lifted the plough and it gave an almighty rattle, he stood on my foot.

Injury 3 - torn tendon in fourth finger left hand - horse whipped round whilst being hand grazed after lameness.

Injury 4 - concussion, whiplash and an unspecified and so far uncured back injury 14 months after a fall out hunting. Nothing has shown on the MRI or Xray, I've had physio, osteopathy and facet joint injections to no avail, currently thinking about a CTscan!

There are times (usually in the morning when I'm as stiff as hell) when I wonder exactly why I have a horse! Several of my non horsey friends think I'm mad.

Wishing everyone currently suffering (and some of those injuries are awful) a speedy recovery.

Yeah just outta hospital, got released yesterday, carted off in ambulance with suspected broken pelvis, lucky X-rays clears but muscles, tendons, ligaments around hip all torn, internal bleeding into muscle, giant hepatoma on bum hip but I've lived to tell tale

Out my head on diazepam / dihydrocodien but its doing the job, pain bearable , so much so I've binned my crutches and even manage to get ,y horse ready and watch him at th BS today I found another jockey for him seems I laid up.

These all sound very painful!!

I, for the first time since last October, am *touch wood* without injury.

Normally quiet horse reared up being led to start with and I spirally fractured and dislocated my ring finger. I didn't have the rope looped or anything but they said I was lucky I didn't get pulled off completely (yuck...!). Had to have a cast thingy on for three months and now it's incredibly wonky and lumpy bumpy but so long as it's not freezing cold (when it goes white and very sore) it's all good!

One week before being given the all clear my dear sweet old veteran sent me skyward and in my panic at not hurting my finger again I held it to my chest and went down on my head, neck and then shoulder - doh!! Tore all of the ligaments between my shoulder and collar bone which was incredibly painful and broke my scaphoid. Scaphoid didn't heal properly and I only came out of a splint two weeks ago - I did it on Valentine's day!

Remind me why we all do it?!

A friends horse wouldn't load today, gave him to me to hold while she went to find a lunge line to help and he decided to stand up on his back legs despite the fact that he was right next to me. Clipped me on the arm on the way up and will have a nice bruise, I managed to get out of the way but somehow managed to tweak something in my hip joint doing so.

Decided to leave him behind and drove to dressage, by the time I got there I could barely walk. Didn't think I was going to be able to ride but after a few horribly painful moments when I first mounted it eased off and rode my test ok. Loaded up, drove horse home and turned out.

I now can't really bear weight on it, it is so painful. Have had a bath and some painkillers and will see how it is in the morning, probably should go to a&e but figure I wouldn't have been able to ride if it anything was seriously damaged.

Moral of the story........don't offer anyone a lift anywhere! She made me late, and injured me, and had completely failed to mention that the horse might not load, apparently he has form for this kind of behaviour but no one told me!

Yup. Last Sunday was taking my youngster for an inhand hack when she was scared by a strimmer revving up behind us and bowled me over, literally. I did a full summersault and landed on my bum on a large stone. Pony tried to jump over me once I was on the floor and stood on my forearm as she went. Have some glorious bruising and swelling to my bum which looks like a butt implant went wrong :p :D and similar bruising and swelling on my forearm too  :D I was lucky though as nothing broken. Dr at the hospital assures me all bruising should have cleared up in a couple of weeks but the swelling may take longer *sigh*

Hope the little boy comes through the surgery ok and recovers quickly

Some of those injuries look sore! I'm 10 days post op following shoulder arthroscopy and bursectomy thanks to my youngster managing to dislocate my shoulder while I was picking out her feet last October. Hoping to be back in the saddle asap, but in the meantime I'm enjoying watching my trainer and friend riding my girls for me.
Hope everyone heals well, and cinnamontoast, how's the leg coming on?

Triple ouch, that must have stung!

Leg has two holes at back of knee, one small, one rather large, both lead to the same place. I'm being asked to syringe irrigate with sterile water daily, dry interior with cotton buds and/or hairdryer , push in flamazine cream, bandage. The doctor won't prescribe bigger bandages or many cos even the 10cm x 10cm cost over £4 each, (Allevyn, specially for leaking wounds, euw) so I'm back and forth to the pharmacy. Dark murmurings re further surgery were made and I'm seeing the surgeon next week. Can't have the hole heal with the cavity down the leg and can't bend my knee much.

six weeks ago when it was very cold I put a hole in a tendon (achilles) mounting horse, felt it go!

Be really careful! Both my parents snapped theirs, 8 weeks in toe to hip plaster, very limiting!

I have 6 screws and a plate holding my knee together.

 Does it ache madly?

I had a similar bruise to yours but on the side of my thigh when I fell of an ex racer that tanked off with me and I fell out the side door.

Having read everyone else's riding injuries I'm sending you all healing vibes and wish you all a speedy recovery! X

CT ooh that sounds nasty :( a few years ago I had a very deep wound in my armpit/chest from an abscess that needed to heal and refill from the inside out and they kept it packed with a sort of seaweed derivative rope - I wonder if they could use something similar for you?
The alternative use of the hairdryer makes me cringe slightly!

Some nasty ones on here, so sending healing vibes... Especially hope the toddler who got kicked is making a good recovery.
I'm just about recovered from a dressage related injury. I had pneumonia before Easter, and was near to being able to return to work when I helped at a dressage comp, scoring, etc. I was walking across the farmyard with score sheets in one hand, mug in the other and tripped. Because my hands were occupied I didn't fall on them but my chest and side. Very bruised, sore and possibly cracked rib(s), must have damaged the muscles too, but thankfully now almost better and I'm riding again. My poor daughter isn't though as she came off her bike last weekend and has cracked her Rt elbow (radial head) and possibly fractured her Lt scaphoid so splint but may need plaster cast. Bikes are dangerous too:p

Bronc'd off onto a road a year ago next Friday and broke and displaced 6 ribs, damaged my spleen and spent 4 days in hozzie. Was wearing a Racesafe that the doc said saved my life. Whilst I was back poo picking after three weeks and riding after 6 (VERY gently, my confidence was absolutely shattered!) I am still tender and if I move my left arm in the wrong position, they catch on my shoulder blade. They've said that they will eventually all join up again but that it will just take time

As most of you will already know I de-gloved my finger last Saturday whilst turning my mare out. Still in agony and week on and now infected. It didn't hurt at the time till the next day and ever since :(

Got the Aquacel AG, which is silver hydro and works the same way as the seafood (didn't that sting? I had something seaweedy recently!)

Ouch guys!!
I some of your injuries are making me cringe! Healing vibes sent out to everyone.

I have a couple of bruises in my thigh from GK being a tool when I was unrugging him... He decided to kick me. :P

The toenail on my big toe is slowly growing back after I got stepped on too. :)

Just coming sound again! Ned stepped on my foot, breaking a small bone. Then just as I'd healed, he did it again!!
Also stepped on my little toe, breaking that :(

Am currently recovering from ankle fusion surgery which is remedial work from breaking them both about 5 years ago coming of my tb. Hopefully this is going to be the last surgery for a fair few years - am at number 5 now

broke my thumb at a show last august and its still giving my jip

horse went down on a corner on slippy grass and has a limp for 24 hours and then absolutely fine. i however went down with her and then hit the ground hands first thrown clear of her.

then the ligament running to my thumb pulled a splinter of bone of and really hurts :)

Ive already posted about this on another thread, not me, but yesterday my daughter was riding one of our horses in the field & it reared & came over backwards straight into a fence , thankfully just missing a fence post by a few inches. Have to say it was the scariest moment of my life, thank God my partner was there & kept a cool head. We had the ambulance & air ambulance out for her (much to the delight of locals who gathered to watch!!). Thankfully she was very very lucky & got away with just a fractured collar bone & lots of bruising, she in lots of pain, but at least shes ok. I was terrified she had damaged her back. Not something i wish to go through ever again!

In 2010....whilst out hunting my pony tripped and rolled over me. Resulted in my glasses wedging into part of my eyelid and brow. Pony was fine (thank goodness) but I ended up having facial surgery with both internal and external stitching. despte hideous nosebleed i was relieved to find my nose was not broken as they said they would have to reset it if so (phew).
Whole face swelled up to twice its normal size was varying shades of blue and yellow and to cap it all eye would not open properly for a week.
I know I was lucky and no longer ride in glasses.:)

hope you all get well soon :)

Champion, I'm sorry to hear it's become infected :( I hope you don't need it opened and cleaned.

The main wound is scabby and healed, just about. The line above the wound is a hole leading to a cavity. There's a smaller hole to the left. Further surgery was mentioned last week cos it's a mess, folds of skin, stitching done quickly, can't bend my knee and that won't improve unless they cut it and restitch, unfortunately.

Big improvement from the original wound!
