Anyone else still leaving theirs naked...

...Or am I the only one. My 12 year old cob is really hairy and still naked. He's having the winter off so I'm trying to leave him to fend for himself... Normally by now he is clipped and in at leaset two rugs! He looks happy is nice and round and feels warm enough but putting my old girl winter rug on last night I felt a bit guilty.... Please tell me I'm not the only one who still has a naked horsey!

Three out of four are! Mind you, two are dartmoor hill ponies who probably think our field is tropical compared to where they ould have been a year ago, and the other is our two year filly who is wintering out at a friends in a huge field. My special boy is clipped and has a lightweight on though!

Yep! A whole heard at our yard are still naked, and mine has just gone into a rainsheet because she got clipped otherwise she would be naked too!

Yup - only one with a rug on is the TB as she's been clipped. All the standardbreds are naked and all except Mags are still out 24/7 along with the youngsters.

I usually ride later in the evening, when it's cooler, so she's not really sweating up much.
If I ride in the day and she gets warm, I just pop on her wick away rug and let it do it's work whilst I do my jobs.

I'm hoping not to clip at all if I'm lucky

but fear we may look a little out of place when we go to dressage comps.

Oh I'm pleased to hear from you guys. My boy is the only naked one at my yard and I was feeling a tad guilty!

There's a 14 year old full TB at my yard, out 24/7, unrugged, no shelter (enclosed electric fenced paddock in middle of larger field) and is unfed apart from grass. Hate to say it, but he's looking okay - so far. Still grass out there for him to eat I guess. Do feel sorry for him as his field companion comes in each night and he's left out on his own; especially when it's particularly cold, pouring rain and with a gale blowing as has been the occasion a few times recently.

My large 2 year old is out 24/7 ATM but is lightly rugged and fed daily. She's rugged to prevent rain scald.

Not nekked but in LW just to keep him slightly clean - and he's a warmblood who was clipped in September. Looks like a hairy beast now as out of work until next week. Then will be clipped and rugged up properly!

Yes, my TBx is still naked. Only one at the yard, in fact only one in the area it seems!

Yes, one of ours is still naked and will be staying that way unless it turns to really bitter icy wind and rain.

yep my warmblood who is admittedly retired is living out 24/7 without a rug. half thought about giving him one the other day but he is so plastered in mud and in no way cold that I didn't bother!

No reason most horses turned away for a winter can't be left rugless, IMO. Mine (ID X TB) is out with a huge fluffy coat, lots of mud and grease and general filth to keep her warm and dry - perfectly happy

She is out with two babies (don't know how old - about 3/4yo I think), a broodmare, a TB-type pony and full TB broken horse (usually a skinny thing), all of which are rugless and look fine!
