£100 is the cheapest I can find in the north east for call out and to flock my saddle up!
I thought a flockup was supposed to be around £30?
The places I have enquired with aswell are only around 10miles away, but the call out charge is ridiculous !

I didnt realise it was so expensive, looks like I may just go bareback for a while... :(

It depends if their charges are mileage and time on site

Have you asked for a full breakdown of the costs?

Also can you share the call out charge on the yard?

We've just done that on our yard.

Check over of saddle £30 each, then any flocking etc. My friend was just charged £30 and I was charged £45 as I had some flocking done once my check was done

If I have my saddler out, Its £26 callout, he's only 5 miles away, and thats the cheapest band!, £24 check, and if it needs stuffing, another £39!! LOL! He could take half and hour-45mins. Makes the farrier seem a bargain!!

Blimey... anyone get the feeling we're all being fleeced? (No pun intended :))

Farrier costs, saddlery and not even good quality!!!

Gah :(:(:(:(:(

Have you looked at Jobson's of Alnwick? I don't think they're too expensive.

Jobsons was £50 call out each- for more than one horse!!!
& £60 complete reflock.
Ridiculous.
Somehow, somewhere 10miles away from me in Alnwick has a higher call out charge than a saddle fitter from shropshire. I'm still not quite sure how that works!
Cheapest i could find was simply saddles at 75.

It must vary from region to region as some have further to travel obviously and fuel is constantly going up in price which doesn't help.
Our insurances are high too.
I don't go out on site to flock and fit saddles now unless I get my arm twisted by regular customers, after 23 years of it I had had enough and confine my activites to my workshop instead and I just don't have the time to go out.
The best way to fit and flock a saddle IS to do it on site, no doubt about that so taking it to the Saddler to avoid a call out charge may result in a saddle not flocked up to fit the horse properly.
If it's flocked on site we can try it back on the horse when we have done it if necessary to check it's correct.
For anyone who wants to compare the prices I charge £10 call out (up to 15 miles)
I charge £10 to check the fit of up to 3 saddles on the same horse (people often have a few secondhand saddles they want to try on to see which one fits, if any)
IF the saddle fits but needs flocking I charge £30 for the flock up and forget the fitting fee (£10) so, the minimum people pay me is £20 the maximum for one saddle flocked up is £40.
I also always make a point of re booking the customer back in within 2 weeks (depending on how much they ride in the meantime) as flock always settles down, no matter how much you add and if you add too much in one go it does tend to go hard and lumpy alot quicker so I put a fair amount in and then go back within the 2 weeks at no extra charge to top it up .This way of doing it results in the saddle being at it's best for alot longer, I have seen saddles recently flocked by others that have gone flat again quite quickly afterwards.
Hope this info helps?
Oz :)
