Hi, My vet has recommended Barricade as a fly repellent so am just wondering if it is any good? And how you use it- how long it lasts etc. My horse hates flies especially since he was stung by a wasp last year! He now seems to be allergic to any bites and they come up in lumps about 2 inches in diameter - fortunately they don't seem to bother him, I used leovet phaser last year which worked well, but he has developed a rash (lots and lots of little lumps) on the 2 occasions I used it this year, so I was going to ask for a small sample of the Barricade to patch test it. Have made my own with neem aid and citronella but it just doesn't seem to keep them away and the horse flies are not out in force yet!! He has a rambo flybuster which fits well but he is still being bitten, and is fine with a mask in the stable but just gallops about the field if he has it on!!
Sorry that was long - just feel sorry for him!!

It has to be diluted a lot - make sure your vet writes down the instructions. I think it is 10ml barricade into 500ml water. I also add a few drops of citronella oil as well.

My vet told me recently that barricade may become un-approved by the EU so stock up now before it disappears.

Hi guys,

what is Barricade & where do I get it?

I am having real problems with flies at the mo and was going to get some Coopers but this sounds interesting.

Thank you

Barricade is VERY good and does what it says on the tin. I first used it when I had some mares turned away at a friends with lots of trees. Although she was checking them daily I couldn't expect her to treat them with fly repellent every day and they were in danger of getting eaten alive. Another friend told me about it and I have used it ever since. Instructions are on the tin, you soak them in it down to the skin, and hey ho no fly bites etc for probably 3-4 weeks. Try an Agricultural merchants. It doesn't smell all girly horsey or come in a pretty pink bottle, but wipes spots off anything else I have ever tried.
More expensive initially, but lasts AGES, (my tins usually rusts thru before I use it up) to the point where you might be as well getting some friends to chip in with you if you only have one or two horses.
