I was just wondering if any one else's mares are even more stroppy than usual this time of year? Mine is normally a handful although at the moment she seems to be alot more aggressive and dangerous. Had her back teeth and tack checked, i know she is not in pain just being very grumpy. Dont know if it is hormonal or not?

I have a stroppy gelding?

(he thinks he's a mare...?)
That might just be going to prove it isn't necessarily hormonal - I think... - as he's got far more grumpy towards the other horses especially recently, throwing himself across the stable to threaten the mares either side of him for no reason, pulling faces constantly and being a bit of a bugger in general. Fine with people though!

Mine is very bad tempered at the moment, teeth snap if I have the nerve to stick my head over the door when she doesn't expect it etc! She has got worse in the last few months so guess it must be hormones and the warm weather through autumn bringing her in season so late. She is at least very sweet when she is bang in season so I just get all my cuddles then!

Well i got kicked in the knee the other day for daring to move the cross straps under her legs on the rug - she would never bite but she will kick out (not with intent just a get away threat)- but my god she is a stroppy cow at the moment - i have to be so bossy and dominant with her when shes like this its horrible - i want my happy mare back dont know whats going on with her!

Oh yes, full of attitude at the moment - she is a fire breathing small hairy thing. However I doubt it is hormonal as she is in foal - she does get very grumpy about the wind though.

Yesterdays star turn was to double barrel her stable door and she managed to get both feet clean through it - there was a pair of hoof shaped holes at waist height

I think many mare owners are struggling at the moment, i placed a post yesterday evening on the exact same subject. Many helpful comments apart from one or two (!) and its nice to know you are not alone. I have put mine on NAF Magic today just to try and help her out a bit coz she is highly strung anyway without that last long season.
