Just wondered if this was just a Poppy quirk or if anyone elses dog did this:

When you give her a cuddle she'll sit quietly for a while and then she starts to lick my arm, if I move my arm out of the way she'll reposition herself so she can lick my arm again. After a while she'll open her mouth and gently hold my arm while I stroke her. It's quite funny and she doesn't bite down but she seems to not be happy unless she can have my arm in her mouth ha ha!

No Betsy doesn't, I can't abide being licked and with a baby on the way it's important she knows it wont be tollerated.

Mouthing is a deff nono in my house too.

Ime,dogs are 'lickers' or not. My ESS would pin anything down and wash it til it was saturated(as far as he was concerned, sparkling clean;)) and our 6mth old GSP also moves straight in for a lick if you are close enough but our other GSPs have never been lickers. One of my sister's RRs is a licker, the other not at all. Tho I don't mind the odd 'kiss' on my nose,I don't like being 'washed' :(.

I don't get licked but I get 'nibbled' and the odd nose touching mine. The nose against the back of my hand is a gentle reminder they need to go out, or I am forgetting something (feed time or bed time).

She's a collie :) I don't encourage this behaviour and I don't let her do this but today (just before I posted) I was on HHO reading threads and because I wasn't paying attention she started the licking and then sat quite contentedly getting stroked with my forearm in her mouth  when I "woke up" as it were I took my arm back ha ha! I think she's a bit special really ;)
ETA: she doesn't lick my face or legs (unless I've just got out of the shower ha ha!) it's just arms that interest her for some reason and she only does it when I'm stroking her

Speaking of the shower, have had to drag young GSP from being half-in the shower or bath, eagerly trying to lick the kids whilst they're supposed to be getting clean. :-0 (They,of course, find it hilarious...;))

My collie will happily lick anything (floor, walls, couch, his bed, me etc) for ages

Ha ha ha! that's brilliant! :D

My old collie used to do this if you were in the bath with bubbles, you couldn't leave the door open or she'd come in and try to lick the bubbles off your arms/face/leg - whatever was in reach

Yup mine is a bit of a licker. He licks your toes as well while staring into space or at the tv.

When he's hungry he licks the back of my mum's legs and tries to herd her to the kitchen.

When he was younger he would lick the seat you had been sat on :(:o Thankfully he grew out of that.

When he greets me he licks behind and inside my ears :o

He also licks your ear when you do something for him ie give him a brush or give him same treats.

He stands with his feet on the floor and front paws on the back of my dad's chair and licks the back of his head when he wants to go out.

I tend to ignore the fact that he spends a lot of time with his head between his legs licking his junk. It's much nicer not to imagine where that tongue has been.:(

Youngest dog is an inappropriate licker. Any bit of flesh will be got at! My boy is incredibly keen on my face cream which means I can't go to bed till it has sunk in or I will be pinned down and have my face completely washed again!

Oh yuck at you all! How can you let your dogs lick you...or your children...have you seen what they do with their mouths and tongues!!?? Gross! (Each to their own but NONE of our dogs lick or are ever allowed to.)

Ah,the kids will live! I just scrub them with a baby wipe;D It's when he slips his tongue in yer gob when you're not expecting it, that makes me want to wash my mouth out.... ;)

We have a licker. Only one out of the six dogs, Buster the wire haired terrier. He licks or stares at you. Just stares or licks. :p

Stupid dog.

I think it's quite common on retrieving breeds as they like to hold things in their mouths. I've known many golden retrievers do this!
