My GSD boy was one year old last sunday.

Every day he will get his blanket and lie down with it between his front paws, stuff as much into his mouth as he can and then suckles it! He kneads it with his paws too. His eyes glaze over and his ears flop sideways.

It is so sweet. Obviously misses his mum!

Anyone else's dog do this? Neither of my other dogs have done it (Boxer and Rottweiler).

Max, my 3 1/2 yo Dobermann, does this too. He'll fall asleep and every so often he gives his toy a squeeze with his paws and has a little suck. It is VERY sweet.

Yes, it wouldn't surprise me if his original owners had him as a 6w old or so. He had obviously missed out on his pre 10w socialisation period

I 'took' Max on when he was 2 years old, he'd had a bit of a rough time . He defo prefers his big squashy toys as his comforters

alot of the time they mouth things, blankets, hands, toys as they have a discomfort (sweet/ sort of itchy pain in mouth) and thus they seem to relive it by doing so, youngsters will do so whilst teething too

We got him when he was 8 weeks old. He and his litter mates had been spending time away from their mother but I'm not sure how long. He was from a reputable breeder.

I haven't seen mine doing that, in fact he doesn't chew much at all, never has, but he does love his toys and likes to collect all manner of things to put in his bed, if it's missing that's the first place to look! He`was 14 weeks old when we got him, 8 months now, and has been no trouble at all, in fact, he's so docile we think he was not quite the brightest of the bunch.

He has an old stuffed rabbit that is totally disgusting but he loves it, he lollops about with it hanging by an ear. The other night I'd called him in for bed when he made a terrific fuss about going out again, gone for 2 minutes then came back in with bunny, he'd gone out specifically to find his comfort toy to take to bed with him. He always sleeps with it underneath his head.
