My boy is stabled, so the rugs he has on for the night are just put over his door. He is absolutely fine with this throughout the day and ignores them totally.

Yet as soon as I go in to muck him out, he'll stand chewing them or knock them on the floor then come over looking very pleased with himself! Such an attention seeker!

Anyone else's horse got a really annoying habit?

Hes just a pain in the backside all the time!! He gets so excited when at a show that he struggles to stand still in the trailer until hes done something. He will stamp his little feet and try and knock you over!!

Yes! When I tie up my mare I sometimes give her a bucket of chaff or something in a holder which is at about chest height, when she eats from it she INSISTS on flinging most of it out of the bucket onto the floor, always out the right hand side  I keep telling her wasted food means wasted money but I don't think she gets the idea ;):D

Not mine, as am currently without, but have been looking after a lovely 17.1hh KWPN who is just the sweetest thing but is a bit of a naughty child. Yesterday, I hung his rugs up whilst I went to retrieve his tack from the room next door and within seconds I could hear this sucking noise. Not a windsucking noise, but a real 'I've got an iced lolly' sucking (the noise that children would make prior to being told by their parents to eat nicely). Went back in the stable to find the horse sucking the corner of his rug. There was dribble all down his chin, foam round his lips and a look of utter contentment on his face. The rug had a rapidly expanding wet patch.

I took it out of his mouth expecting to find it quite chewed, but no, he had just been sucking on it.

This morning, I hung them over the door, without thinking, and within seconds, the 'Schweeuup, schweeuup, schweeuup' sounds started. Removed rugs - no chewing again. Alarmed, I sent a text to his owner, who said 'oh, I forgot to tell you, he sucks his rugs or anything cloth, so don't leave them, his numnah, a towel, or any bandages anywhere near him.' Apparently he sucks up bandages like spaghetti. Doesn't swallow!

Zips!!! . If anyone stands and fusses him with zips on their jackets he pulls them until they come undone and if I'm picking out his feet and have my boots with zips on at the back he'll pull them as well

Mine will sometimes start licking my leg then gets very serious and starts using his teeth, forgetting that I'm not a horse and his teeth are big and hard!

Just teaching my TB mare to come down on the bit (doing very well and very proud) but she drifts on the left rein -.- rather irritating but hopefully she will learn to walk straight soon :-P

I've got a zip grabber who also is far too interested in pockets, I don't hand feed or titbit so it's proving hard to break this habit. He quite likes tipping the barrow over too.

Kicking his feed bucket whilst he's eating, he's done it since the day I got him! I spent ages trying to stop him, holding his leg up so he couldn't paw! putting my foot in front so he hit my foot each time he pawed! squirting him with the hose from a distance, whistling every time he does it! but nothing seems to work! the whistle does make him stop sooner but after a year he still does it every day! now my 28 yr old mare will do it occasionally too, gerrrr!!

Mine does this too, so he has a corner manger and I don't feed in the field as he dumps it straight in the dirt. Maybe we just aren't stirring it properly  The only downside is I've had to put a piece of rubber matting where he stands to eat, as he was squaring off his toes scraping them on the floor.

Walking across grass to stables - she will try to snatch her head down and grab some. Same out hacking - tries to snack as she goes!
REALLY irritating habit that I'm trying to break (she started it slowly so it is my fault).

Waves his front paw when he wants something, and prods you with it if if your standing close enough :o if you tell him off he gets all affronted and stamps !

Mine shakes his grooming bag upside down to empty it, flings the empty bag over the stable door then drops the brushes into his water bucket one by one whilst giving me the cheekiest look he can muster!

Leave a rug or Numnah within reach when he is tied up and he grabs it, pulls it down and tramples it. Doesn't do it with stuff in his stable!

I dunno, I think its just a habit that he has now! He only has fast fibre and high fi, so I've tried making it like soup and then making it thicker and regardless he kicks it! but I have noticed him pawing when he has a lickit, salt lick or if I put a bales of hay out and don't take of the baling twine, so think its just his little quirk, gerr! haha

Mine has very little concept of personal space and we have this discussion every single time I rug, groom or tack up. He is also fond of a hearty face rub when I take off his bridle though I "think" we are getting through this now. If you stand in front of mine he will step into you. He isn't nasty (or stupid!) but you have to shove him back (not hard!)

Mine does this too! He also picks my leg up by grabbing the buckle on my welly, he zips jackets up, flings his feed bucket around so I have had to tie it down, takes his own shoes off by standing on the inside of them and ripping them off (more expensive than annoying ) He also torments other horses in the field by pulling their tail flaps up when it's cold so they get chilly bottoms!

One if mine neighs constantly when he cant see his special little shetland friend - I keep threatening to hobday him! 2k and my life will be so much quieter :D

My shetland is rather attention seeking and if you're busy doing something or chatting and she decides that you are not paying enough attention to her, she often grabs the the top of my wellies or my jeans and tries to wave my leg around, will also stand behind you and head butt you and have ended up sat on her head a couple of times because she head butts so low, she will also "investigate" everything which normally means turning everything she can reach upside down and pulling things off shelves.

The other one has a thing for feet and will happily stand there licking or nibbling on your boots if you let him

My mare's not too bad for anything but my sister's tb - everything goes in his mouth, he sucks on rugs over his door, leather goes in and is chewed in about 2 seconds flat (doesn't chew the rug tho), even his reins when he has his bridle on are not safe.
Zips etc are also fair game

Ameys was to pull her rugs off the wall, roll on them then swiftly pee and poo on them ... Dirty mare!

I don't know why she suddenly started the habit but after 3 rugs were violated I stopped leaving them anywhere near her.

Had to get them all cleaned at they smelt absolutely vile!

My lad has lots of annoying habits, he twangs elastic toggles on jackets, tries to undo the farriers chaps, bounces on gates till they open, undoes quick release knots, chases pheasants on slippy fields, bites the bulls over the fence, chews his reins and pulls rugs off fences and trashes them, so why do I love the silly beggar

So so many bad habits but his favourite is probably grabbing my sleeve and making me hit myself around the head. Only in public of course.
