Anyone else's horse resemble a wooly mammoth ATM?

Mine is seriously hairy, he seems to have a much thicker winter coat this year ... do they know something we don`t? lol

I have 3 wooly mammoths at the mo but they live out naked 24/7 so they kind of need them although im finding my mare is getting sweaty even just eating her feed so fear she may need clipping and rugging which I really dont want to have to do, im praying the temperature will drop considerably soon!

Hell yeah! I have 2 furballs, with fabulous thick glossy coats. I'm currently debating with myself whether to trace clip or not, but don't want to then rug. Definitely hairier than last year.

Yes!!! I have a tb who isn't doing enough at the minute to warrant a clip, my other one is out of work till March so no point. This is the first time in 20 years that I have not clipped!!! Youngster is building up his work slowly so I may give him a little clip in a few weeks.

Not now as they are clipped (I'm on the 5th clip for my ISH...) coat growth has been ridiculous! I think they would definitely resemble woolly mammoths if I hadn't clipped them. Never had to clip 5 times in one winter, let alone 5 times by mid november :( only on the 2nd clip for other horses luckily.

Eh, no. For the past dew years we have been keeping the lights on from 7am to 9pm, and coats have got thinner and thinner.

This year Jay has what most people would consider a summer coat for a native. Looking at his neck I don't think it would be clip-able if I tried. His back end could be clipped, but as he is not working much this year I will not bother.

It was NEARLY thin enough not to clip last year, but again the back end was a bit fluffier than the front. I keep looking, waiting for it to grow, but fingers crossed it is looking fine ATM.

Mine's hairy, but the interesting thing I've noticed in previous years is that she's hairier on her black patches than on the white.

YES! Have tried desperately to control the hairy highland yetis coat this year! But no such luck he is a ball of fuzz may have to resort to clipping!!

Yeah we're on our 2nd clip for both and going to have to clip our ISH again pretty soon!

I did until tuesday when she was spectacularly de-fussed as she was sweating stood in the field without a rug, never mind in her stable or when exercised

For some reason my tbs haven't grown so much of a coat this year. The retired one who usually gets quite hairy for a tb, is still looking quite sleek and the other has only just got enough coat to justify clipping.

Nope but wish he was, clipped Wednesday morning (hunter clip) shod Thursday morning, vet for check up for ongoing stifle issue (was progressing well and had been told by vet to crack on as needed to know how he would cope) Thursday afternoon. Idiot now booked in for op week Monday so have newly clipped shod horse that can't be ridden and doesn't realize it has an issue so is practising galloping, sliding halts and extended trot in field. He loves hunting/hacking so much that he has been walking out leaving others behind and happily galloping about, I have never had to use leg to ask for forwards, stopping is more of an issue.

Blummin horses, wish how hairy he is/isn't was my only concern.

One of mine has been clipped twice already. One three times and I've just done one for the 4th time! They don't usually grow a coat .

Mine's had an Irish clip done about 3 weeks ago and he seemed to be holding back on what I would call his proper winter coat as it's been so mild but it's come through massively in the last week - I love running my hands through it and seeing his hairy Norah Batty wrinkled stocking like hairy legs!

Yep, Benji by now has normally been clipped for at least a month and rugged. He's now very furry as I've not done him. He picked off a shoe and I lent my clippers to a friend the other week so she could get her pony (whom I bred!) used to the noise.

He needs one though as I only took him out for a short hack yesterday and he was sticky when we got back, we'd only walked too. I am ashamed of how dirty he looks atm, grey minger has been scrubbing himself in mud!

Im bemused by my connemaras lack of winter coat this year. she was born in Donegal and spent four years in harsh coastal winters......but somehow here I am waiting for her wintr coat in co meath..... and really , all she has is a bit if fluff not even worth clipping. she doesent even get sweaty on active hacks.....maybe we are in for an easy winter????? hope so!!!!!

Yup, welsh x cob with a good dose of heavy horse in there somewhere. Currently out and unrugged for the first time since I've had him - I am not looking forward to spring :biggrin3:

Yes mine is exceptionally hairy! He isn't in work but is having a whale of a time running around with another youngster I'm tempted to clip him as he is getting sweaty! Roll on the colder nights please!

My three minis suddenly all look rounder than they are tall but when you put your hand on them it disappears into a thick, fluffy coat. they are ready for an arctic winter.
