Anyone elses horses a bit WILD at the minute?

My 4yo is crazy atm :( every little thing is an excuse for spooking, hes bucking(which he has never done) and is generally permanently on his toes.

Hes looking really well so I think he must be feeling it too and the yard Im on stops T/O completely in the winter. I am moving back to my old yard next week where he can at least be allowed to have a play in the indoor but until then Im wary of getting on him haha.

Anyone elses feeling a bit too fresh at the moment?
 
Usually at this time of year the horses at our yard are exactly how you described! they are all on their toes and are so fresh they have to have a bit of engery ran off them before being ridden, but at the mo they are (touch wood) behaving quite well, dont know how long this will last for tho! I took my boy out on Saturday for a gentle hack after not being ridden for 3 weeks due to the snow, and he was an angel, shockingly so, and I didnt free school/lunge him first either! im slightly suspisious! haha! :)
 
Yup, my 3 yr old is playing up to be caught and is generally very fresh is the field.
My 8 yr old is spooky and started leaping in the air in the other day (with me on her back).
They're both out 24/7
 
Yes! Glad it's not just mine! The older girl (rising 13) is her usual self but the 4 year old has been a loon the last few days! They both live out 24/7 so cant use the lack of T/O excuse. She escaped into the field next door yesterday too and spent a good 15 mins galloping round, bucking & farting the whole way, and hadn't broke into a sweat when i (finally!) managed to catch her. She hasn't been rode in 4 week due to the weather so i'm not looking forward to getting back on after that display.
 
Mine managed to have my off and crack a few ribs last month :( I cant wait for summer and T/O lol. I have given him this last week off because his saddle needing adjusting and i think his back was hurting a bit and I am dreading getting back on :o
 
Yep both mine have been acting like numpties the last few days. Don't know what's got into them. They both live out 24/7.

Maybe spring is in the air! ... Ok so that might be a tad optimistic.
 
My 14yr old IDxTB is mad at the moment! Doesn't want to come in and turned himself insde out when I rode for the first time in 2 weeks!! Calming down now but still mad in field even though very fat!!!
 
Mine got so excited last week at actually being RIDDEN after 4 weeks off, he had a hissy fit on the way home and refused to go back down the lane to our farm. Silly creature! He did the same the next day then also on the beach when we got to the end of the sand and turned back for home. I don't know where he thought we were going to go because there was a cliff in front of us but would he turn round? To add insult to injury this was witnessed by several people who know me - how embarrassing!!!!
 
My section A who is usually the coolest customer has been a bit loony since we had snow. Usually you can do anything with her and she is just so chilled but atm she'll find any excuse to spook in the field and turn to gallop bucking frantically- and squealing. She has been really wound up, and she's out 24/7 so it's not as if she's cooped up for long periods. She has started to cool down a bit, I find that the colder the weather the more of a loon she is- so now that it's about 10 degrees in the day it's too warm for her :rolleyes:
 
My 21 year old gets turnout every day - he is the oldest in the field with 5 others and after they had all gone out this morning, I found him cantering round, winding the others up to play with him. The others wanted to eat, but he just pestered them and kept tugging at their tail flaps - got a feeling I might go down to another kick injury later if he doesn't let up! Haven't ridden since Monday and he was on his toes then!
Mare is mental and after trying to lead her out after 3 weeks box rest, i decided to preserve myself and sent her to a rehab yard with a horse walker - there is no way we would have stayed uninjured if the walking out in hand had carried on!
 
My four year old has been getting very cheeky the last week or so despite being turned out daily and exercised nearly every day, he bolted down a very steep concrete road the other day and I thought my time was up! Hope its just a phase but maybe there is something in the air. Going on first hack since it happened with another horse for company this afternoon so fingers crossed we get home safetly!
 
Is this normal then for this time of year? I only ass as my first horse was pretty much sane all the time but our new boy, who also lives out 24/7 has been a real pain to bring in the last couple of days. He was horrible today, biting and barging and generally being a git. But once in his stable he was fine and he was fine to turn out? We have had him since September and he is nearly three. I've not had a youngster before and I assumed he is trying to assert himself now that he is settled in.

This made me chuckle, sounds exactly like my now retired appaloosa!
The other horse is quite fresh but he's only 8 and not a plod. I think it might be due to the lengthening daylight, and the bad weather means many horses have not been worked as much as they're used to. Also, in the wind, they just use that as an excuse to play about a bit.
 
My cob was an angel, he went out for the first time since the snow started and was so up for it we ended playing over the XC for 20 minutes (usually he's a lazy so and so!). I haven't got back on the mare yet but will be lunging first! She is the type who needs to be worked 5/6 days a week or gets above herself!
