Just wondered if any of your are finding your horses more difficult at the moment, is there something in the air?

Got chucked off my horse the other day so want to hear any stories of your horses playing up to make myself feel better before i go ride him after work!!

I can offer you a beautiful collected canter which turned into a spook and cart across the long diagonal, all because of a dog walker minding their own business on the footpath, if that makes you feel any better?

After people pressuring me to take my mares pelham out and put her in a snaffle I eventually did so. 2 days ago she was being an excitable pain and nearly got me off with her prancing around. Changed back to her pelham, got back on - good as gold.

It could be something as simple as that. Have you changed something?

Amymay, i will see what the horrid horse is like tonight and go from there....until then, i just need stories of other naughty ponies!! :p He might be a diamond.....i'll let you know tomorrow...or tonight if i'm really angry!! :D

i can offer you my sympathy i put my girl out sunday morning and she spent 20mins gallopping bucking farting you name it thought to myself perfect got a lesson this afternoon shell have tired herself out.. ha ha no chance we were jumping small training crosses like they were giant attacking monsters and giving them plenty of air!! definately something in the air think maybe the mild weather might be doing it :)

My youngster turned and bolted a few strides when confronted by a herd of bikes the other day... can't really blame him though - they were going to try and whiz right past him on a narrow country lane. Other than than? Nope!

Yes, pretty much the same i think! Put his french link on instead of waterford and he knows the difference! Will see how he goes in his waterford tonight, if he's a ******* then i'll look into it more. Why i bought an opinionated nutter i do not know!!

We both feel securer in a pelham I think. Will be sticking to it for the foreseeable future.
Haha! Foxy can be opinionated - especially about change!

Gulp, here goes my second attempt at posting :D.

I definitely think its the time of year for nuttiness! My two are rather excitable to say the least at the moment .
I got a big reminder of Topaz's broncoing prowess the other day which resulted in me flying through the air, and then her rearing at me as I'd dared to keep hold of the reins .
In fairness I had just clipped her and the others had just gone out, but still I was not impressed... she should be able to control her impulses by now! If I hadn't gone to the trouble of already putting all the jumps out then I wouldn't have bothered getting on :D.

My boys not really naughty but feeling ready to go. I think the mild weather makes them think spring is coming along with eventing, they are old and wise and telling me it's time to step up fitness!

Yeh nasty ****** the mares wound him up so going to get him rig tested I think. Spent 3 hrs in a&e
Gosh KerrieBerry2 I hope you're OK!
Topaz was only reacting to me clinging onto the reins and didn't connect with me so I was very lucky. It could have been a lot worse and at least she was suitably shocked with her own daring when she landed. She's a great bucker when excited, but doesn't rear as a rule, I hope you get to the bottom of your horses problems!

Yes - even my very safe and sensible boy had a squeal and a buck when I asked for canter at the weekend. I was most surprised! Although they havent been out for ages due to the horrible weather so that might be why.

I'm lucky as he's only 2 so unshod. I dread to think what would have happened if he had shoes on. There's defo something in the air mares aren't normally in season this time or yr. hopefully I can get him out of rearing ASAP

Yes! Nothing ridiculous, but my normally very laid back gelding was 'looking' at everything out hacking yesterday, and when schooled he was a lot more tense than usual and pulling on the bit  giving him a day to chill in the field before trying again! He was foot perfect a week ago. My other horse on the other hand, has been impeccable :D she's normally a right pain to keep calm ! And the other horse I'm riding has gone grumpy :p All three have gone weird all of a sudden and they are normally very consistent :p

sadly no mine is lethargic need to get the vet out once the outstanding bill is paid

My very fit hunting cob decided to show off his rodeo skills at last sat's meet - threw in some whoppers!!!

I made him gallop up a very steep hill which fortunately knocked that bout of bad behaviour on the head, but don't hold out much hope for tomorrows meet.......!

Yip. Both of mine seem to be full of it. Nitty is trying very hard to be good but is clearly full of energy though bless her cottons.

Yes he has been 'fresher' than normal spooking at random things and jogging more than normal. Then this morning he decide he didn't feel like going in the field and decided to tow me down the lane until I couldn't keep up with him so had to let go. Managed to catch him and get him in the original field but we have fallen out!! No carrots in his tea tonight!!!!

Mine decided to bolt round a 20mx40m arena bucking whilst doing some no stirrup work yesterday. Managed to last a couple of laps until she spun on her hind legs, making me headbut the floor and blacking out for a minute or two :o

Plus, today the farrier and two ladies on the yard couldn't get her out of her stable to do her feet. Round 2 tomorrow.

My attempt at a collected canter on a hack today resulted in a big buck and drop of the shoulder, I tumbled off and it hurt! So yes, he is very full of it the little devil. Wouldn't mind but he is not on any hard feed, turned out daily, ridden regularly, blah, blah, blah.

Planning to lunge him loads before I get on next time.

Yes!! We went out for a 2hr hack on Sunday. We bounced the entire way round, shaved half an hour off the time and decided that "trot" actually meant "WHEEEE!!!"

Amazingly for Jan I really think it's spring grass giving them all a little extra 'zoom'. Mine are definitely feeling the joys! I normally cut feed back in mid feb in preparation for spring grass - never had to cut it back this early!
Oh well looks like cold is back again at the weekend so it might calm the grass down for another month or too.

What little sods!! I am definately not feeling much spring in my step, more the opposite!! Been so tired since being back at work and my horse is full of it! x Rode him last night after lunging him for half an hour, i rode him for nearly 2 hours to get rid of his energy and he was still buzzing around after that but he was able to keep all four feet on the floor!

Hunting tomorrow.......might still lunge him before we go though!! I want a dope on a rope!! x
