Not only was it revolting weather yesterday but where we were huntingl (which is usually dry as a bone) was really deep and holding and the horses hated it. I decided taking the horse home was the best thing to do because she hated it, didn't want to jump out of bogs and I really didn't think it was fair on her at all. I was home by 1.30!! Most unlike me but just couldnt see the point.

I am now picking my meets - we had a good meet on tues as was mainly tracks and roads, so stayed out all day and came home with a relatively clean horse and tack! However I didn't bother yesterday as was crossing notoriously wet country, and if I had gone, would certainly not have jumped.

We have had some horribly wet days, in hock deep mud, and each time I have come home early too and thought 'is it worth it? 2 of our regular field have had horses out of action due to strains, and although this ground is 'bread and butter' to my Irish cob, still don't want to take the risk.

Ron isn't too bothered - but he's not really bothered by much. He is tiring quicker however.

Tom hates wet ground, and if it squelches he panics a bit. He's also tiring fairly easily.

The ground makes it such hard work for them, so we are just having short days, usually back at the box by half 1.

We are lucky that much of our country is beechwoods which has given excellent going but its bottomless in some of the vale country so we are not doing much jumping but thoroughly enjoying watching the hounds flying on the terrific scent :)

Neither horse nor I are liking it. I would generally try to be out til about 3pm on one horse, but I am also having short days at the moment - about 1.30. I can't knacker the horse, I've only got one. People who are pushing them are crocking horses left right and centre.

my 1st meet was on new years day we stuck to sides of feilds mainly and some bridle paths there was a lot of cantering but also alot of walking as the ground was terruble almost knee deep in mud and clay and my horse tanked in first feild as he paniced with the ground he gradually got use to it by the end of the day but we stuck to a walk in those parts.

hopfully when i got out again in march ground will be much better
