The amount of poor horses in the yard this morning waiting for their owners to come and feed them was unbelievable i arrived at 8.30am and was the first at the yard and left at 10am and not one of the other 12 owners had arrived. I threw a small amount of hay into each stable and checked water. Poor horses.
People do not realise how easy horses can develop stomach ulcers from no feed.

Yep! I was at the yard at 6:50 as normal, fed the yard of 9 horses, tied my 4 on the yard with haylage nets while we mucked out, turned out just after 8am when it was light - then walked the dogs, and decided to turn the others out at 9:30am as no sight or sound from the other owners!!

Horses need routine, and I have to alter MY routine to fit theirs not the other way round!!

Have to agree with you there. Its irresponsible to leave horses while the owner sleeps a hangover off. Particularly if the night was preplanned. More understandable if horses are late going out because of an unforseen crisis, but those who want a lie in after a binge, should make alternative arrangements.

Not been up to mine yet

But they're out 24/7, the YO is an experienced horse woman who lives on site and will have been out and about early this morning, plus ours are used to us going up early afternoon, so no rumbling tummies either.

If they were stabled, we'd have been up early :):). When they were stabled they were always left with enough hay and water (two buckets in case one got knocked over) 'just in case' we were late the next day :):)

Nope, all 3 owners were on yard this morning, and ponies are in high spirits.

I agree though, it's easy enoguh to arrange for horses to be cared for if you won't make it at a decent time.
Very sensible MrsM - ours are out too. :)

our YO feeds ours everyday but even if he didnt - id be down there (i was at half 9 anyhow)

horses dont know its xmas or new year so why shoudl their routine change for the sake of our hangovers??

:)

I finished parting at 4am, back to my mates for greasy food (always a must after booze) Sat up watching a dodgy film until 7am, cuppa tea then straight to the yard. Just had a couple of hours shut eye now :p

I did a very wise thing and put Arnie on full livery over the festivities :D

He was fed with the other 10 at 8am this morning then turned out - I still managed to arrive (after picking my head up off the floor and pulling it out of my backside simultaniously) at 9.30am.

OH is now dead (hang on, nope there's a definate pulse) on the sofa and I'm about to head to Maccy D's for some 'comfort' food

Happy New Year everyone

xx

Ours wasn't too different. We went for a nice early hack and were off the yard by 8.30, roads were nice and quiet.

I will admit to being late down this morning and got there about 10. Reason being I'm recovering from something flu-y very slowly and so sleep about 23hrs a day, and my dad didn't wake up :o Luckily, horses on the yard are fed by the first person down and Dan still had plenty of bits of hay to pick at if he was reeeeaally starving. He certainly wasn't complaining and didn't seem starved.
However, I hate being down late, and my dad doesn't understand why I insist that we should leave by 8am at the latest :( I do look forward to being able to drive!

My boy was out overnight so took a very gentle drive up about 0945 (well I say drive, OH drove as I think I was still waaaaaaayyyy over the limit!) arrived to find only one horse in our stable block. Poor boy is just rising 3 and cracking up at being alone. I was furious because our only strict rule is no horse is to be left alone. Everyone else on the yard managed to either turn out last night or get up and turn out this morning. So OH put a lunge line on the hysterical youngster and we turfed him out. Fed my boy, did some haynets for the next few days and came home feeling very delicate! What's worse is my OH doesn't drink so the misery is all mine :-(

We had a good turnout this morning - us oldies (40+!) don't seem to want to party on NYE or drink anymore so we were all there normal time (8am onwards) and most of the younger ones had the weekend help turn their horses out and she comes up early to do that. I think the latest arrival on our yard was 10am today. And 3 of us managed to hack out - quite mild and birds all singing like they think Spring's on the way!

I didnt get to the yard until about 10am this morning, neither did my friend who owns the yard (theres only the 2 of us) but then again we never do as they all live out 24/7. :D If any of mine have ever been stabled on NYE though i've always made sure i've been up by 8am to turn out, which isn't difficult as i'm a miserable old sod and dont drink :p As someone said earlier, we choose to have them and they need routine. It's up to us to make arrangements for them if we know we're not going to be there until late.

this is the exact reason why i don't have a routine...so my horses never get stressed...i could turn up at 5.30am or 11am and they wouldn't care less... always make sure they have enough haylage (they aren't greedy types so won't scoff the lot in half an hour)- have never ever arrived to find empty haynets and have water drinkers so they always have water...

re turnout...again, somedays they go out early (6am), somedays they don't go out...again they never stress about it. routines aren't good for horses, unless you stick to them 100%

FWIW it was 11.30 when i got to the farm. horse was fast asleep in his bed :D

I knew i wouldnt be able to get myself out of bed this morning, so i got a friend to turnhim out and took the daughter up to ride this afternoon. I couldnt really drive before 12 i should think id have still been over the limit!!!:D

I was there earlier then normal this morning!! Think it could've been due to all the sugar in the malibu and cokes I'd had lol.

Couple others rocked up after me, which is unusual. But 1st person on yard feeds all the horses, so they werent bothered at all.

I agree to a certain point - I was late this morning but horses had plenty of hay/haylage auto water fillers and had arranged for a friend to check them over the door. It was safer to wait an extra hour than drive whilst still over the limit - I can think of worse things to happen to them than having to wait a little later for me to arrive.
