honestly nearly fell about 100 times, pulled something in my back and a leg sliding about!

fox also ran out his stable and i almost had a heart attack, thought he was gonna do a bambi! luckily he thought better and sniffed the ice and backed back into his stable, clever boy..

what are you doing if your yards like an ice rink? i think its too late to grit ours now so we'll just need to wait for it to melt :(

ours gets bad further into winter. i have a big window-cleaner's squeedgy that i use to keep all surface water off the yard. When it does freeze i'll grit it, but sometimes it makes it worse if it freezes again. Otherwise when you muck out spread they muck as a path wide enough for you and horsey to walk on. Orrrr..... i'm think my mother told me they used to take the fire ashes and spread them on ice as it was meant to help. i'll be trying this if i get desperate!

Yes, we have a solid sheet of ice outside the barn, winter field slopes and is slippy, doesn't really matter though, as my two wooses won't walk over the straw path we broke our backs making for them yesterday, prefer to stand in the barn eating hay

Surprisingly for December, no.

Three days ago there was 2" of ice on the pond, today we have lakes and it is 13C at 10.30pm

Ditto Maisy! We'd have a far better chance if people took thier used water to the drain rather than just chucking it out of the stable!

We were a skating pond a couple of days ago - but seem to have thawed atm. Famous last words.....

Why do you think it is too late to grit now? The salt in the grit will melt the ice. I suggest you take yourself down to a local B&Q/Halfords/Wicks and buy yourself some before someone has a serious accident. Your YO should have a duty of care though and should be supplying grit for the yard.
