Yep, big fan here! I dilute the dettol well in hot water, add a good slosh of Lavendar Wash (as it doesn't have to be rinsed out) and then I use a hot cloth to wipe over the horse. Really good for getting stable stains out of greys at the last minute too, I wouldn't be without it.
I don't notice any lingering after smell, I think most of it evaporates as the water is quite hot. I use the Lavender Wash as it contains stuff that really helps to shift stains, it doesn't have to be rinsed, smells lovely, and is natural. The lavender in it is relaxing. I think it is made by Barrier Health or similar.
LOL - I'm a fan too! I learnt this trick when I worked on a SJ yard - it worked really well on fully clipped horses when we couldn't give them baths during the winter, and we went to shows. We just diluted some Dettol in some warm water, dip a cloth in, wring it out and give them a wipe over!! They always looked so smart and shiny
Will not let the stuff near my chaps, used it on Donks once a few days before a big show, she came out in masses of hives and ended up with a massive vets bills for steroid shots - thank goodness I was not drug tested.
I cap of dettol to 1/2 bucket hottish water.
I use a flannel, dip into water, wring out and rub all over.
Great for getting rid of stains, grease and hair!
I always do this just after clipping too.
Never had a horse react badly yet - maybe just lucky.

Same here - SJ yards use it on clipped horses for winter baths. Works brilliantly on my dirty greasy clipped gypsy cob last week for his Dressage test.
All clean and shiny and no rug smells.
My horse also has a reaction to it!! He has a hot clothe with the Mark Todd Competition wash now (the non rinse one) it smells lovely and he looks gorgeous afterwards!!
