Hi, I was wondering if anyone has (unfortunately) experienced a fall with the westropp brushing and knee boot combination?
I am concerned that the top (knee part) might flip over and not actually do its job?
Thanks in advance.

How many horses actually fall? Ive had 20ish over my life and never had a horse fall while riding (I mostly break / bring on). Id be looking at why and id start with the feet.

I had them and was also worried- I stopped hacking the horse before it became an issue! Sadly I think broken knees on slippy modern roads is a real problem, we had one out driving in the team at walk down a hill. He was lucky to come sound and his feet were always fine!

I had a horse go down on the road with me a few years ago...silly ****** spooked at a pheasent while walking down a hill. he broke the skin on his knees and had to have 6 weeks off. he wasnt wearing knee boots at the time. i bought a pair of knee boots and i found that they made him stumble more so i got another brand and had the same problem, they fitted right as i had my vet and saddler show me how to fit them. but he was quite close infront so kept brushing his knee boots against each other. in the end i gave up with the boots as they wee causing more trouble with my boy and i started getting off and leading him down hills. he was fine anyother time. he had an issue with his stifle which we think is why he struggled going down hill with a rider. his feet where fine, infact our farrier said they were the best TB feet he had seen in ages.

Unfortunately with the modern SMTP road surfacing horses slipping on the roads has become more common. Having had over 55 years experience of riding on the roads the only knee boots worth having are the Jeffries ones. www.ejeffries.co.uk HBK26-CNBL Kneecap. (Make sure that the upper strap is done up tightly so that they do not fall down).

Mine has fallen twice wearing them, once on tarmac and once on concrete. The time she fell on tarmac she went down on both knees but got up and walked away totally unmarked. The time on concrete she took some hair off where the neoprene ripped but she didn't have any other injuries and was totally sound. Either time would have resulted in serious injury without the boots.

We have had a couple of horses break their knees on our yard so I don't hack without my westropp knee brushing boots. They are also much admired out hunting.

They have never flipped down of their own accord. My mare once flipped one down by scratching her face hard but they are far more reliable than traditional knee boots .

They are probably my best horsey buy!
