anyone experiences Reccuring Uveitis???

It's not a diagnosis any owner wants to hear though it can be managed. It can be a primary cause of major eye problems, or as a secondary problem when the primary eye condition is something else. Not sure if I've read somewhere that if it's diagnosed in one eye, at can also arise in the other eye. Anything ending in "itis" = inflammation. Uveitis causes inflammation within the structure of the eye and can be difficult to treat. It can indeed cause blindness and other damage within the eye. Many people have had great success with the Horse Mask that someone else has mentioned. My horse developed an autoimmune disease within his eye (long story) that was very difficult to treat. In the final stages of the 6 month battle to save his eye, he also developed uveitis. It was so painful for him that he had to have the eye removed but he's fine now. Horses adjust to only 1 eye very quickly. It is usually owners that have the hardest time.

My horse has been diagnosed with it. He has suffered with it for 4 years now. It flares up about every 6 weeks, i treat it straight away with steroid eye drops, and bute. So far it cleared it up within a couple of days. So far there has been no damage to the eye and he is not in too much pain. If that changes then he will have his eye removed, although the vet is confident that if i carry on as i am it will not come to that. Ive brought the guardian masks for the field and to ride in, they filter out the suns rays which is one of the main triggers. he wears it all the time, but to be honest it does not stop the flare ups.

Yep my boy has it occasionally, I find it is normally brought on by flies if he manages to get his mask off while I am at work. I have antibiotic ointment and steroid drops on hand but have found so far that if I can see the slightest bit of swelling or soreness I will treat with the anitbiotic ointment immediatley and this works well at calming everything down. I tend not to use the steroid drops because if it turns into full blown uveitus and you have used the steroid drops the drops which you need to give them to dilate the pupil will not work (according to my vet). It is a managable condition but you do need to be very vigilant at noticing any changes within the eye and act straight away.
