Wondered if anyone has exported to Australia from the UK? How long is the process, what tests do they habe to under go and what's a rough cost.

Also is it worth it? my horse of a lifetime and can't imagine not having him even though there are horses out there.

I read a story about a lady who wanted to take her horse to Australia and it was quite expensive for the flight, I think she had an Arab and was starting a stud, she decided to ride him there ,some one was going ahead of her and finding places for them to stay ,it took them a year .

Aus is very strict on quarantine laws. They have to go into quarantine in the UK for three weeks and then again when they arrive in Aus.
As for costs I would not have a clue. Best thing is to call one of the international transporters and ask them. I might well be out of date with quarantine as it was some years ago when I was involved with exporting horses.

Someone recently bought a horse from us to go to aus. The quarantine is very strict but only at this end. The horse failed a blood test for something by 0.01% which most likely was just error so they had to send his test off to Germany and Japan. In total he was on quarantine here for a good 8 weeks. The cost was around £20,000 if you include all the fees and quarantine.

I'll be taking my much loved horse with me back to Australia at some stage.
IRT initially quoted me £12,500 for the airfare based on a single container, however as I have a rather large horse of 18.3hh that is still growing and filling out (yes I know, what on earth was I thinking?) they then advised at present he needs 1 1/2 containers (or business class as they call it apparently). They offered the airfare for around £16,500 plus once we add the vet and quarantine costs on top it will be well over £20,000.
If you email IRT or put a query through their website they will send you very detailed information on every aspect of exporting a horse. They were extremely helpful and prompt in sending through lots of information and a quote.
Sometimes you can even have the option of travelling with your horse too. Mind you it is around 30 hours door to door via a long stopover in Singapore so if you don't mind roughing it and can deal with a very long flight then you can always ask them about that too.
I was recommended IRT by a friend that exports racehorses plus they are experts in handling the TB shuttle stallions that travel back and forth each year between Europe and Oz/NZ for the respective Northern and Southern Hemisphere breeding seasons. I've also spoken to the grooms (as I process them through cargo security at Heathrow). They said that IRT unlike other companies might charge more however their standards of care are second to none.
I certainly rather pay a premium to ensure my horse makes the trip safely and as stress free as possible.

IRT in newmarket or indeed BBA Shipping or James Luck will be able to assist with all paperwork, tests, transport to quarantine, transport to the airport, flights, GST, tests on arrival, quarantine and transport to your stables
