Not a lot of information on the site, looks to be helpful (well its an advert it would do!) one suggested it was being used instead of medication (won't try that) but I would be interested if anyone has used this and what their thoughts are. Mare is currently on Naf pink powder, propel (as had numerous viruses), cod liver oil and a supplement to prevent her lymphagitis..plus feed and peroglide of course!

I had a mare who had Cushings, Vets didn't think Pergolide was a good idea for her as Cushings apparently suppresses the immune system- she was getting infections/sinus infections, mild laminitis, and the Pergolide may have supressed it even further- at the time the Naf supplement you've mentioned wasn't available but I bought her some Chaste Tree Berry supplement, which *I think* may have been made by D&H- she would touch it, however if your horse will, it may be worth a go.

Another one that is supposed to be very very good for Cushings that I never got round to trying is Vitex4equids http://www.equilife.co.uk/Vitex.htm

I hope someone is able to reply for you that has used the Naf one!, good luck with your mare.

I've had good results feeding my old boy cushinaze on Vet advice. He is on no medication - at 28 we decided we would keep him comfortable & when the cushings symptoms get too bad call it a day. Vet suggested trying either cushinaze or vitex & has been extremely pleased with the results. He is comfortable & happy, fat pads above eyes have gone, coat is still thick but we clip as necessary.
Cushinaze has probiotics as well as agnus castus but you may get just as good results using pure agnus castus.

HC - did your vet then recommend this over actual medication then? its not a question of cost cutting for me, just ensuring I have explored any options. Mare looks fab atm and shows no physical signs at all. In fact, she is considerably more lively than my much younger gelding!

fed it to my lad with fab results. over night his excessive drinking ceased, within 5 days he started to shed his massive winter coat (was may at the time and he normally gets his summer coat by the beginning of april) been fantastic for my horse but ever horse is different, i think it would be worth giving a tub a try and see if you get any results.

Thank you all very much for replying. I will talk to my vet as my mare is being reviewed at the moment.

Interesting - there was one slightly contentious post which seems to have been removed! Not sure if the admin does that or if the poster had a change of mind.

I had a long chat with my vet as Bobby is 28, has arthritis & his teeth are starting to get loose. We discussed the risks of blood tests & treatment with pergolide. On balance we decided that we would try the least risk strategy first & see how he got on.
