Hi,
I'm looking to change my pony's feed and hope to put him onto one of the above (whichever I manage to get hold of ).

Is it ok to feed these alongside speedi-beet, rather than chaff? As I want the extra energy without the higher levels of sugar/starch that go with chaff.

Thanks

Hi there,

Some years ago I used to feed the Allen & Page S & C intolerance diet along with unmollassed s/beet to my ultra-sensitive eventer with good results, (although I feel I must in fairness also add that more recently my horses have been on a fibre-only diet for the last few years and seem just as well).

At the end of the day, it's what works best for YOUR situation :-)

Have also fed SCID but found it expensive for what it was. My pony also had choke with this but at the time was recieving a chaff too and she is prone to choke so couldnt say it was the SCID.

I have some nutritional info on my lap top for it. PM me if you would like me to send you the info

Thanks for both of your replies :)

I've just ordered some of the Easy Rider online (can't get hold of it anywhere round here!) so will see how he gets on with that.

As it's such high fibre in itself (28.5%), and he doesn't bolt his feed, would it be ok to feed by itself? I would obviously add water and he also gets lots of chopped apples and carrots in his dinner too.

SB09, thanks for the kind offer but I have already got all the info from A&P, who were very helpful :)

As Easy Rider is a complete feed, yes it can be fed on its own so long as it is fed at the recommended rate. If you do not do this then just add a vit/min supplement to balance the diet.

Your plan sounds very sensible to me :D

Thanks SB09! It's taken me so long to decide what to swap him onto (needed higher energy but without the fizz, but also need to watch the sugar and starch content), and then I finally narrowed it down to these two, which typically I couldn't get anywhere!

I plan to give him some time to adjust to this, whilst monitoring his energy levels, and then if he needs a bit extra, will add the speedi-beet!

Thanks for all your advice!!

yes i feed easy rider 1kg a day, well i have been - but i am thinking of changing onto Fast Fibre. Mine needs no cereals, no alfalfa, no sugar and low starch. I have been struggling to get Easy rider so thats why thinking of going onto FF as easier to get round here.
Allen and page said FF would be ideal for my horse as she is stressy, fizzy type. And although low calorie she said that it would be still good for condition as i also feed Copra meal. and Also the FF will put condition on if fed in larger quantities. i.e. 1.5kg a day.
