Hellooo

I'm new to this forum so thought I'd say hello and see if there was anyone who keeps their horse in or around the Hexham area.

I've recently moved to Hexham and was wondering if there was anyone local who could point me in the right direction of some fun hacks, arenas to hire or any local transport companies who aren't too expensive.

Looking to do some fun horsey things this summer so really just looking for any decent hacks I may not be aware of or any places we can hack to that offer an arena/lessons/jumping/xc etc.

Also quite like to get out and about to a few xc schooling days/jumping lessons/fun rides so looking for some cheap transport. I have access to a trailer but no licence :(

Thank you :D

Hi

I don't own a horse but am currently looking at loaning one. I move back to Hexham in the summer where I will hopefully be staying for good! Where do you keep your horse? There are loads of bridle paths around Hexham, especially heading up towards Allendale which is where I live. The countryside is lovely, I can't wait to get some good hacks in myself! :)

I'm in Lowgate so just off the Allendale road! I've found a few nice rides by the racecourse and a long one round Elrington. There's a couple of bridleways down that way too but I've not had a chance to investigate - will try and do that this wk end. Hoping to find some decent hacks with some good places to canter :)

I live in Hexham but keep my horses nearer Newcastle as there's no livery yards! There should be some decent rides around you, I have ridden around there a bit but not much. High Plains is good, seem to be plenty on there at the moment, haven't had anything rideable for ages but seen sj and the cross country ride advertised. Little Whittington is also good, they have a website as does High Plains.

I generally use Youngs horse transporters who are based in Hexham, they are very good.

I'm sure there's a way to get from Lowgate to Langley or at least down to Haydon Bridge along the road leads down to the 69. Apart from that I don't really know of anymore without having to drive somewhere first. There might be one that goes all the way to whitley chapel. If you ever need any help with your horse, let me know! :)

Welcome to the Hexham area!! For XC courses, definitely Little Whittington Farm or High Plains - both do days when the course is opened and I think you can book for other times as well to suit you. You don't need to jump at either course, although both have a lovely selection of jumps at different heights - or you can just go for a nice ride around the course and not jump!

Also, you must have a look at Parkend Equestrian Centre's website - they have a wonderful indoor school and they hold lots of clinics with top riders - and also run a lovely selection of weekend Camps which get great reviews.

Why not look at joining Corbridge & District Riding Club? They've got a load of events - non-competitive, training and competitions together with RC Camp - and lots of successful teams. The members are very friendly and welcoming and you don't need to have a flashy horse in order to have great fun!

Good luck!
