Anyone From Ireland?

Is anyone from Ireland and can tell me what it's like for a horse owner?
I am debating moving over to Ireland, I'm still in the research phase but have found a few houses that are worth a view, and will hopefully be going over soon to have a look at them.
The house I like the most has 2 riding clubs fairly close (one english, one western) and there seems to be a few Trec competitions in the neighbouring counties. I've looked on the endurance riding group and there seems to be very few rides going on, and most are in Northern Ireland, anyone know if there are any other groups that do endurance riding other than the ILDRA?

Whereabouts are you looking to move to? There are horsey areas and not so horsey areas. Riding clubs are active north and south, eventing and sj are countrywide, endurance tends to be more north and pretty active. There are no bridleways. Riders tend to rely on forest areas, beaches and lanes. And arenas!

The cost of living is higher in the south. Property prices are pretty low in both. Diesel is cheaper in the south, but food is far more expensive, and as for drink ..........

People who live near the border get to pick and choose the best of both bits

I'm looking around the north/south border areas, so as you say, I can have the best of both worlds!

The houses I have seen are in Leitrim, which seems a bit 'back of beyond', but as long as I can get to a supermarket and fairly decent roads I'm quite happy.

Leitrim is next door to me most people zoom up the road and shop in Enniskillen. Whereabouts you looking? I know the RC people there and here. Quite a bit of forestry riding to be had, but you may need to box to it. Lovely area though

Check out Endurance Ireland for rides in the East, Southeast, South & West of Ireland www.enduranceireland.ie .

The main disadvantage to horse ownership in Ireland is the lack of bridleways and the extra time/costs of travelling abroad if competing, otherwise you will probably find most things like feed, rugs, vet fees etc cheaper than in the UK.
