So, it’s raining, I’m having a cup of tea and thinking about the week ahead . I’m planning on putting my mare in foal to a full Irish Draught , but can’t work out what % ID , TB , and WB there would be . Anyone ?

So mares dam is 3/4 ID x 1/4 TB , her sire is 1/2 TB x 1/2 WB, the. As I mentioned the sire I’m using on the mare is full ID

I know foal ( if she takes !) will be a crossbred, but just interested on %

Thanks !!

37.5% TB, surely? Assuming no TB blood in the WB half of the sire, which is probably unlikely.

eta, yes, that's the mare, not the foal.

25% warmblood, 37.5 TB, 37.5 ID???

Sorry, that's your mare...plus a full ID would make a foal 70% ID, 20% TB and 10% WB maybe?????

Surely, if im putting a full ID stallion on the mare it would be more than 50% ?

I think ive been a bit dense, and not put it down right... Mare in question is Aria. She is by my ole girl Asha. Asha is 3/4 ID x 1/4 TB. Arias sire is Royaldik - 1/2 WB x 1/2 TB.

Aria will be covered by Archie

So your mare is:
37.5% ID
25% WB (although that in itself is likely to be a % TB)
37.5% TB

So the foal on a pure ID would be

12.5% WB
18.75% TB
68.75% ID

Although in reality a fraction less ‘WB’ and a little more TB - it depends on the % TB in the WB

Brilliant, id sort of roughly guessed 2/3 ID. Cheers !!

I didn't read the Q either - I answered re TB and the mare, not the foal. I answered the question I expected ;)

as a rough guide it would be 2/3 ish ID the other 1/3 being TB and warmblood mix. if tere is TB in the warmblood which is most likely and TB in irish draft of you go back far enough then a little bit more TB. and warmblood could have arab in it too. interesting.
