Anyone got a dog and a parrot? (also in soapbox)

Hi all

Just wondering does anyone have a parrot and dogs.

Basically I'm thinking about getting a parrot (I've had one before) and I have 3 dogs how did you introduce the two??

I have 2 dogs, a cat and a parrot. He is an African Grey parrot. We had the big dog and the parrot at the same time as babies, 8 years ago. Then we had a JRT as a pup and believe me if the dogs go towards the bird, they are very wary as his beak is too much of a threat to them. If the parrot is on the floor or settee etc, and they need to go past him, they do so with one eye on him.

I have a mastiff who is just about a year old who is my main worry as my other 2 dogs where there when I had my other parrot so they know the score. should i just introduce them and see how it goes??

Yes, let them see him in the cage and sniff him in there as he will soon show them not to get too close. Then when you bring the parrot out, put him on your hand to let them say hello, and be ready to push the dog away in case he goes to snap. They should be OK, just be very watchful.
