I've had my new horse just over 2 weeks now. Was curious to know if anyone else is in a similar situation and how is it going for you?
I bought my mare, from a video, everything that is NOT recommended, it was just a weird gut feeling. I showed it to my mum (she's in her 70's) and she literally gave me the money and said go for it... and although early days, I'm so so happy and in complete disbelief that she is far classier than I first thought. I was aiming for a little bit of low key fun in time, but I've already entered a hunter trial, I have that much faith in her! Safe, careful with a pinch of sass - a perfect mare! I haven't competed in about 14 years!!! I'm older, far fatter, far more riding unfit, (I've done a bit of schooling but mainly hacking over these past few years).... and now I'm re-living my 20's!!
So, what stories has anyone got about their new horses?

Bought a new pony for my son in June. He is everything I said I would never get - grey, Welsh, gelding ?. My son absolutely adores him though, and the feeling was mutual from the first meeting.

He’s 5, arrived unbacked with catching issues. My son keeps on about how he wants to be a horse trainer when he grows up, so I gave him some advice and sent him out to sort the catching issues himself. He also did all the backing and riding away with me as his helper (I did the long-reining). The fun of backing a 5yo is that the teenage stage turns up as soon as they are strong enough, rather than 2 years later, so it’s been a bit of a baptism of fire! In between the ‘discussions’ they have been to the beach, hacked out miles, braved arena hire (we don’t have an arena at home) and generally had fun. I am also loving that my son loves this little pony so much he actually wants to do everything himself, so I don’t have to get involved with much of the care/tacking up etc.

Bought my daughter a new pony. She’s 5 and was only backed in spring, but so kind and genuine. My daughter who is 6 did a little hunter trials off the lead on her last week and she is just the loveliest little thing.

Again, not what we were looking for but just gut feeling. That’s how all the good ones happen I think!

I've just got one - sort of unseen in that I knew very little about him except that he was completely opposite to everything we've owned in the last 20 years.

But my OH knew his owner and they watched his last race together - a week later, he came off the transporter's lorry!

We have 17.2+ IDs. In 7'3 rugs and XF tack.
This little horse has 6' rugs and a 4.5" snaffle
He last raced 3 weeks ago - is 100% in traffic, having never hacked before in his life, he's been xc schooling and has found his passion in life!

So.... A new adventure with a tiny (15.3!) horse and great excuse to go rug shopping!

(And if anyone has a 17" Stubben for sale, he'd love you forever!)

I got my mare, Connie x TB, in mid June so about 16 weeks ago. She's a delight. Incredibly well behaved on the ground, she settled very well. She is a retired jumping pony with slightly arthritic hocks and she'd started stopping in the ring. She's now much fitter, lost some weight and full of go. When we do pole work I can feel her getting more excited as if to say, come on Mum.

Same as Red1 I got mine over a year ago but also bought from video unseen and she’s been more than I’d ever hope to get in a horse. (I do not have the experience to take that risks ?)

when I saw her picture I just couldn’t get her out of my head. It was the weirdest feeling so I took a punt and she’s amazing. She’s funny and kind and honest and makes my heart sing.

So glad to hear how well your doing with yours. Let us know how the trials go. ?

I bought a 13 month old Percheron x yearling unseen from photos. He was a little smaller than expected when we arrived to pick him up but brought him home anyway and he is a total darling with a great attitude for his age! Roll on the next 4 years!

Not quite the same but I got a new full loan 2 months ago, was looking to buy but with Covid prices gave up, then just when I had come to terms that I may not have a competition horse to ride for next few years, he came along! And he’s just lovely and everything I want. Funny how things work out like that

I bought at the end of June. She’s a 3 year old thoroughbred - on paper/to people with no real knowledge of TBs, it sounds like a nightmare. But she is genuinely the calmest and sweetest horse on the yard. I am not loving the self harming and the fact I’m rugging already, but other than that I am besotted.

I purchased via an on-line auction unseen ?! He's a little poppet. Been to a show and now slowly going hairy in the field. I did drag him in today, tied him up (first time) and gave him a decent groom. He's so easy to do, looking forward to seeing him grow up.

I bought a 2 year old unseen in June. I bought him off videos and for his breeding. To be totally honest if I had met him first I might not have bought him as he was a stroppy little monkey with an attitude problem. However I've got really fond of him and he seems to be responding well to the adoration.

I bought a filly in July unseen from someone I know. She was 2 in May and was unhandled living out in a herd of youngsters. Now leads beautifully, hooves were trimmed on Tuesday but then Farrier said he was pretty sure she was heavily in foal? Vet coming on Monday!
