Hi guys.
Just want to pick our brains a bit !! I have a mare 14.2hh good girl just a really nice person if you get my meaning! A couple of times in the past she gets completely out of character for a couple of weeks.. Going from a dope on a rope to rearing coming to and from field etc lashing out with front legs kicking out with back legs etc.. This has only happened on 2 occasions in the 3 years I've owned her all the other times shes a darling completely sane etc. I had her ovaries scanned last year and nothing so put it down to bad behaviour! And had nothing since till about 3 weeks ago ... She wasn't eating much and looked miserable for a week or so .. Stood at back of stable .. Didn't touch her dinner etc!! Then perked back up , I went to get on her in school and she reared up vertical turned round and flipped and galloped off loose in the school!! She galloped about for 10 mins b4 we could catch her!!! By this time she was in such a state I put her back in her stable and dried her off and left her for night. Next day armed with husband on the end of a lunge line I tried to get on her and she did same. So didn't try anything more just put her back till I could get her checked. I must add never ever has she reacted like this under saddle I knew the last owner to.
So had the saddler out and we tried her in saddle and saddle fitted fine and she was ok whilst trying that in in school but not wanting to go forward so next step was we got vet out who thoroughly checked her and when he touched her top of spine area just below withers she flipped and tried to squash him against side!!! He did some further checks and because of the extreme behaviour on that area , vet suggested x ray to check for kissing spine... So we took x rays that came back not kissing sound but obvious still a lot of pain.. So she is going for a bone scan on her back in a weeks time at the equine hospital.. Since he's been and fiddled with her her behaviour has gone crazy !! Leading her in from field is a massive battle and tonight she completely lost in her stable !! Spoke to vet and have put her on bute... Anyone had these issues before that are linked obviously shes not happy bunny but just wondered if Anyone had similar with there horse??? Xxx
