As title, has anyone had this surgery and have any idea how long it will be before I can ride?

I have mentioned it to midwives but they don't want to tell me....

I had my baby 3 weeks ago and although nit back to full fitness, I feel like I a getting there...

I had 2 caesareans although it was quite a while ago!
I was back riding 6 weeks later after the first one and 8 after the second.
I remember the midwife saying to me 'its all too lumpy bumpy on your body'. I said, 'I ride - I dont do lumpy bumpy'.

I was told not to ride until I'd had my 6 week check. I got on the day before it and couldn't use my stomach muscles at all - nearly fell off in canter as they just weren't strong enough to keep me upright and balanced.

So I would say, do what feels right to you, but take it steady because things might not work as well as you expect :)

I was riding at 5 or 6 weeks after my first c-sec, then was really naughty and rode after 2-3 weeks with my 2nd c-sec! I felt so bored, I just had to ride. Luckily for me, everything was fine and healthy.

Ive had 4 lots of abdominal surgery & each time I was itching to get back riding. I had to invent a new way of getting on & off but I managed, even just to go for a leisurly stroll :o Surgeon wasnt too impressed at first but he said it had actually made my wounds stronger & the muscles to heal better so all turned out well in the end :)

Had abdominal surgery. Signed off for 12 weeks but went back after 6 weeks as soon as cleared to drive (strong enough to do emergency stop). Not sure I would have felt strong enough to ride though as even sitting at desk at work was exhausting

Haven't had a caearean (although currently pregnant and hoping it won't be on the cards) dut did have a major gut op three years ago to remove a tumour. Now got a nice 8-9 inch long scar that follows under my ribs on my front. You can't drive for 6 weeks after surgery as you don't have sufficient muscle there to protect your guts in case of an emergency stop. but you probably already know that. Doc's also recommended taking at least this amount of time off riding to allow the surgery to knit up.

I had several months off riding as I had literally had no muscle in my abs at all. I think I couldn't even sit up from lying down without using handholds. When I did start again I had some lessons at a local riding school on quiet horses, on and off lunge, so I could start building up some muscle again. Took about 2 months, combining it with pilates, before I felt like I had most of my old balance back again.

Caesareans aren't as invasive, so you'll probably recuperate quicker. But I would take it easy to start with as you may find your balance has completely disappeared!

I had a c section 4 years ago with my youngest and probably went back to riding about 8 weeks after.....I had a total hysterectomy 2 months ago and rode on Tuesday :)

I didn't have a horse when I had my c section so that was not a consideration for me at the time. However I was working at a riding school/dealers so I was fit and strong. I had a slightly soggy six pack! My son was born by emergency section and I didn't get on a horse for about 9 months after that. I didn't find any pain or stiffness but what I did find was that I was very weak. If you are riding correctly you engage your core muscles to maintain your position and that's difficult if your core muscles have been cut! Take it one day at a time. My son will be 4 next month and I am only just getting back to full riding fitness ( I didn't have my own riding horse just a youngster until about 6 weeks ago though) and it's been a painfull process! Trust your body and don't push it. You will be tired and sore but you will get it all back. Treat yourself like a horse coming back into work!

Ectopsy, years ago. It was about 7 weeks I think. Driving was far worse than riding. I had to take emergency action as a motor bike went out of control as he passed me, and when I slammed on the brakes and wrenched the car round the pain nearly killed me! But it didn't.... just be very careful

Thanks for the replies everyone! Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this, a certain little man takes up a lot of my time.
You have all confirmed what I knew but didn't want to believe, I have missed my mare so much but she is a little madam so I should wait a little longer.
