Yes, my old horse did. it burst up through the coronary band and at one point we thought it might be quittar (sp?).
It actually took quite a while for him to come right afterwards, a good 1-2 months.

yes i have just cleared one up! He had a poltice on it for a good week and then i took it off and stil bandgaed it to keep sweleling down as was filling his leg. Under the bandgae i put iodine cream ( as reccommended on here) to keep re infection at bay.

He is sound now but some swelling was still coming up his leg for a good two weeks after abcess burst. its a pain when its in the heel. mine was from a sharp stone i think!

Yes mine had one last year - right in the bulb of the heel! Never seen anything so lame!

Had a weeks box rest then turned out for a week with it taped over to keep it clean - by the start of the 3rd week he was sound enough to ride but I kept it covered for another 7-10 days and put an overreach boot on just incase he struck into it. No problem since.

Cheers everyone, we had the swelling up the leg too, vet only found it last monday although she had been lame for 2 weeks and he was just about to x-ray, started to clip her leg and there it was! We poulticed for a week and then turned out again. We are cleaning now with salt water and spraying with iodine but it is not covered and last night she was only slightly uneven in trot so fingers crossed. I have never seen a horse so lame either (apart from Amy Tryon's!).
